I love my new job, I operate large, noisey and oily machinery and I'm not allowed to carry a cell phone:yes:. I can get as dirty as I want and all my clothes get washed for free.
And the best thing...
I don't have to talk to customers anymore:woohoo:

I wasn't happy in my previous job, handed my notice in, giving ample time to find another. Circumstances changed so I shortened the two month notice period to one month.
I wasn't worried! :sunny:
This was in February. I am still not working, and I am fortunate enough not to have financial stress, to an extent. My concern is the brain drain that I seem to be experiencing (like I had alot to begin with FFS)!
Yes, I have been applying for jobs, and getting interviews BUT I forever seem to be either too qualified/experienced (pffffffffffffft) or under qualified/experienced for the role. :brick:
Feedback I have received from both my CV and interviews is all positive, with warm fuzzes and all.....BUT I WANT A FARKEN JOB!!!!!! This waiting game sucks arse!!!!
so no I am not happy in my current role :weep:

Jobs the same, I realised it was the awesome people that made it down there. Everyone's so negative in Auckland.
Unfortunately (for me), the Missus is in a two year contract with her dream job, and it happens to be the only Hospital she can work in Emergency straight out of Uni. Once those two years are up, i'm pretty sure we might make the move back.
Besides, i'd be a Jafa by then, who wants to work with a Jafa?

I'd like a job, I consider myself semi retired but I'm starting to think I'm actually retired. Part time jobs worth having are a bit rare in my neck of the woods.
I want to ride a quad bike around the fields of Taranaki with my mp3 singing, my dog on the back rack, fixing fences and hugging trees.Watch the sun go down over the mountain and go for a beer before sleepytime.
Taint too much to ask is it, I've had my day in the fast lane, don't wanna be a mega rich pop star or anything, sheesh.

Pretty proud of myself that after several years of hard work honing my skills in my chosen field....I'm now in the position where I have enough credibility and positive reputation that I've been able to successfully negotiate 4 day weeks for the same money!
My job allows me to work with a huge range of people from all over the organisation (across NZ) + varied levels of seniority within the org from the CE to the mailroom staff AND because I seem to be fairly well liked AND not a manager people tell me EVERYTHING...I know all the good gossip ;)

Hmmm, depends.
I agree with "it's the people who make the job enjoyable"
Generally I enjoy work as I have a great team around me, but we are being slowly morphed into uncaring disgruntled individuals by those who know better.
There are still enough laughs to make things interesting but after 6 years I know it's time for a change.

I can't consider being a postgraduate student a job - it's a bit of a grey area really... Quite happy with it, although it can be frustrating at times.
However, I have a side-job as an assistant teacher that I am rather disappointed in. So disappointed in fact that I was extremely close to going over to tell my boss that he could shove this piece of unprofessional rubbish somewhere the sun doesn't shine. It's horrible being supplied with teaching resources that are both uninteresting and a waste of time... No wonder that the students have a hard time motivating themselves, I know I would.
This coupled with "slightly below average" (as in non-existant/utter crap) communication between the people who organise (tui) this course makes the job an altogether unfulfilling experience.
If there is re-incarnation I'm coming back as me. :dodge:
I hope you've done a great job of being you - otherwise you're likely to come back as something a bit further down the food-chain.

Suppose I should say what inspired this thread. Been at Weltec for the last 2 months doing Auto Refinishing, really enjoying it there. But today I did my first afternoon of work experience. Had a chat with the guy and gal that work there and they were very bleak about everything. Said it was a dull job and they're getting sick of it. Mind you they've both been in it for 10+ years. Even so, It's got me wondering "shit, what have I got myself into" :(
They did give me some hope, they said working in a bigger workplace is usually better since they always have something for you to do and it's often more challenging and rewarding work. A mate of mine that had been through Weltec doing the same course is in a bigger place and he's enjoying himself (which convinced me to do the course). But I think I'm in the right place to learn since it's pretty small time and cruisey.

Absolutely love it. Flying a high performance jet on a global basis. Currently on a week over in Geneve. Apart from an apprenticeship as a motorcycle mechanic, I've flown all my life, law enforcement, airlines and corporate. I would do it all again the same if I had the chance. Some people have to work for a living..! The rest of us fly.
Hell pizza has its bad nights, but overall it's not bad.

So I did... was not meant to be for a long time at this one, working in the poultry livestock industry.... a couple of weeks at the max... but that is become a few more than that.... like all jobs.. has it moments... but I walk into work everyday with a smile on my face and happy as hell a shit load of the time... but then there have been the shit... It has its moments...
Interesting to compare this poll to the news item a couple of weeks ago that indicated 1/4 of all police are dissatisfied with their job because presently, this poll indicates that 1/3 of KBers are dissatisfied with their jobs. (For those of you, who like me, failed school cert maths that means police are happier in their jobs than KBers are.) No conclusions, just an observation.
I love my job!!
I have a beautiful view from my desk of the Tararuas... at the moment they have a bit of snow on them. A huge deck that I spend my lunch time lounging around on in the sun. I'm a teacher and I'm okay,
idiot students and colleagues too,
It makes me feel high and low,
but you gotta take the joke y'know?
It keeps me feeling I have a life
Pity my mum says "wheres your wife?"
Never mind I always say,
at the end of the day there is my bike!
I'll take a hawt asian biker babe anyday!
Now its the second school semester
Got some tests to administer!
I'm a teacher and I'm okay,
got my jailbait in with me today,
Kids to beat around the head
Why didn't they stay home instead?
I'm a teacher and I'm okay,
Public servant stealing his pay,
Watching the clock and marking time
Almost soon to be on the bike again!
I keep my work in the school,
I gripe and bitch and moan and complain,
But, I'm a teacher and that's okay!
:msn-wink:
N.B. As usual the dribble that I dabble in is utter tripe and poppycock, I wish I could be like those teachers who end up as a headline for molestermacating their teenage charges, but the truth be told, if I had my druthers , I'd be fiddling with me bikes! :innocent: Mmmm hawt asian teenage biker girls...

I really don't know why but this just sprang to mind! :o Oh well, :doctor: back to the hospital. John.
Mostly happy. The people I work with are good (the boss can be a bit indecisive though, maybe not the best manager). The work is a nice balance between stressful and boring ;) , most of the work (setting up programs to run on the turret punch and then loading the tools and running the machine) keeps my mind busy, so the days often go quickly.
It's my first proper job after leaving uni, I've been there a little over a year now. I regularly experience monday-itis, but usually tuesday is a bit better and wednesday better still (if only because the week is half gone already ;) ).

When we give bonuses (bonii?) at work we gross them up so the person actually gets the amount we say - in the hand, ie, if we tell someone they're getting a $500 bonus we may finish up paying about $800 before tax depending on annual earnings, student loan and kiwisaver. That way they get in the hand the true measure of our appreciation for whatever they've done. Costs us a bit more but hey, it all goes towards our staff turnover figure of 15% in an industry where over 30% is the norm.

I love my job. Yesterday, I played around on the computer for an hour, helped a student cook bacon, eggs, hash browns and tomatoes which we than sat down to eat, went for a walk to the park, fed the ducks, watched the little kids play, went to a cafe and had coffee and yummy muffins, back to work in time for lunch, another hour on the computer playing and then home.
Pity about the pay though!
