Suzuki GP125 backfires when starting

Recently fell off my GP (Sadly when doing my CBT, came off at about 5 mph and landed on the Carb side) And since I've had problems starting it, I've tried changing spark plugs, this helps for about 10 mi then it cuts out, it's been for a full service, when taking it back from teh service I got told I leave the choke on too long, tried to stop riding with it on at all (so revs would stay at about 2k rpm when idle).
Now when I try to start it it just backfires with a loud shotgun blast scaring any locals (and my self the first few times) and then cuts out.
Am I right in thinking it may need a new carb? Thats what I saw recommended to someone with a Ninja...
Anyway, hope this is posted in the right area and you can be of any help that would be great :)

Couple of possibilities I can think of;
The needle jet may have picked up some crap when it was on its side and is jamming.
The floats may have been moved/bent causing it to flood/starve.

I'd recommend stripping the carby right down and cleaning thoroughly.
Leave the mixture jet alone if you can identify it.

Yeah I was expecting to have to look at the Carb, we've already looked at it once and it looked fairly clean.. But my dad knows more about cars then bikes...
Although it all seems to be in good order so we might have just put the float on badly?
Don't know much about the niddle jet though I'll have a look into it.
My brothers boss also mentioned something about the coils might be burning out?
Is this likely? (but he said this before it started to backfire)

Have you checked for air leaks around the carb as this would cause back firing and needing the revs to be running high so that it doesn't cut out.

A coil will only play up when its hot, and I think your bike will probably have a magneto?

Tomorrow I'm taking the Carb out and cleaning it with carb cleaner, haven't checked the seals on it, though the guy who sold me it says the carb is fairly new before he sold me it.
Dunno about the coils, although my brothers boss has now said that it's not going to be the coils since he knows more about the bike's details (he just knew it as an old bike)
