In line with other areas of the country, it is proposed that we have a fundraising ride on 28 June, The ride is also intended to give the cheesecutter campaign a little nudge. I am happy to do a lot of the co-ordinating, design and print flyers, talk to other bike groups in the area etc, BUT I am not going to do it all on my own. This needs the help of as many of you as possible to ensure a smooth, successful day. The LW Trust is a worthy cause, but having spoken to their fundraising person, it is apparent that they run on a shoestring budget and can only provide suggestions for how we go about this. Since the pride of HB KBers as at stake, put your hand up to help.
Awesome stuff John, localized fundraising for such an important charitable trust is great to see especially when they have limited funds. The CC part of it is starting to take effect, we are having a meeting tomorrow with someone who has all the knowledge from the last Auckland protest ride. We also have the Press release rough draft....needs adding to and tweaking but It reads goods.

The big bike and car display last month at Greenmeadows was a LW resuce helicopter fundraiser primarily organised by a few guys from our Triumph HB group.

Were you involved in the organisation of it Dooly? If so,can we pick your brains?

Exactly! I'm not doing this alone.

I had nothing to do with it.
Only except to go on the ride, display, and contribute a donation.
The Triumph group is not what you'd call a club, so theres no meetings and contact lists etc, so I knew nothing about it until the day of a ride when we went to the park.
I think a couple of guys from our group did most of the stuff.
The main guy you could contact is Doug Castles who I think is a land agent with Wrightsons?, he seemed to be calling the shots on the day and was on the PA.
I dont really know him, just seen him once on a ride.
I'm unavailable to do anything, with me sorting a few medical things out in the next few weeks, busy here on my land and at work, living out country, plus being in Australia for 3 weeks in June, I have pretty much got no time for anything else.

Thanks for that Dooly.
We are really busy here too, with lots of stuff to get organised for Zac before he heads off and I am involved with the school production too. Then there is work, grandkids etc, so I know where you are coming from.
We are prepared to help, but want someone else to step up to the plate for this one.
it is an excellent cause and they really struggle to get enough funds.
Never know when it will be one of us needing their services eh?

Just found this. Mind you I am seldom on here now days. Very happy to help with this. With some experience of the WRB rides I would be happy to work with the ride from Five Start to Five star. What can we do to promote this? I could get some copies of the fly made. How are we going to determine who and where we put them and when?
We, like most rural residents, donate to this every year. We are happy to help with the organizing of the ride but have to advise that we are unable commit funds for this.
Great to see Five Star working in the community. That’s enough to make me support this fundraiser.
Are we doing this ride in the right direction? Should we start in Waipukurau and end in Napier?
Can we get the paper to publish info on this for Free? How about Radio? Anyone have any contact in these areas? So where do we start? Lets go………….. Should I get the flyers copied and take one to each of our local bike shops? Post one to the Hawkes Bay today. Has anyone got any of the local Radio station contact details?
Can we ask Honda to put this in their window when it has Five Star all over it???????? As I said above. lets go.....

Thanks Steve...faith in human nature restored!
We are open to all/any suggestions...
We have some copies of the flyer, just wondering where to put them up.
We are contacting the local free papers (HB Today is useless..they really don't want to know.)
In other areas, bike shops are helping by donating spot prizes etc and getting recognition for same. Quite happy to put the Honda dealer on there if they are willing to give us something ...and will then include them in the route??
Perhaps we could have a meeting over coffee and run through the ideas??

No money asked, except for the $10 entry. I have added that pillions must pay too. Time was creeping by and no-one had offered help, so I made an executive decision...5 Star is the only shop that will be mentioned on the flyer, but if another shop will have it on their notice board - great. 5 Star will put on the sausages free to entrants at their Waipuk branch because there is a ton of room there unlike in Napier. I will be on the phone today to the Courier and the Napier Mail for a publicity spot, forget HBToday. Radio is a good idea, but as a Rock listener I don't know the local station(s) so can't help there. More ideas?

places like banks are usually keen as it shows a 'community spirit'
also places that sell biker accessories ... maybe mainjet?
certain bars also might be keen

Excellent start people. Ok where can we meet and when to sort out the to do list?
(1) Here at 7.00am for coffee on Saturday morning?
(2) Breakers for coffee mid morning Saturday?
(3) John and Janet’s for a cooked lunch with Bacon eggs toast tomatoes hash browns onions sausages mushrooms and coffee served up by young topless blond waitress with a nice smile and the ability to hold a full conversation relating to the importance of using good seal on the roads in Hawkes Bay and why WRB are dangerous and at the same time wiping any dribble away from any old men that get too excited about the thought of riding on good roads.
So what venue you want?
If you can print a hand full of flyers off John we can sort out the delivery of them. Are you just printing them off on your domestic printer? I will be at the bike shops in Hasting on Monday ( at this stage ) so can ask them about the flyer in their window.
I recon Maffoo has the plan. We need to divide the area up so we don't trip over each other and just try and hand out the flyers to who ever will take them.

Very good. We have an outline of a plan and I recon this could work out really good. If we get a fine day we could have a few bikes.
Mary and I have plastered Bay View with the flyers. One in the Mobil shop, Bp shop, Vegy shop, video shop, Fish and chip shop and the Juice shop. Now if anyone in Bay view can’t find out about this ride they don’t deserve to ride with us.
We also did the BP shop on Carlyle street. Everyone is happy to put them up. All we can do is advertise this and what ever happens , Happens. We got 20 copies done at the copy word place. $1.80 a copy. So it is probably better to print the ones you want on your home computer.
We also have some spot prizes donated. We got a ticket book to hand out a number at start of the ride with a draw being done at the end of the ride to give them away. Seems to be falling in to place.

I was in Hasting today and dropped off at Barry’s Motorcycles da Honda shop, the 3 petrol stations at Stortford lodge, I dropped in to Hawkes Bay today and had a chat about what they could do for us and fingers crossed it might turn up in the paper, Free. I dropped in to the Hospital and they will put it up there for us. The Bp on Karamu Road has one.
So please put more out in Hasting if you are going past a people place. Everyone seems happy to have these and want to help. All we can do is put the info out and what ever happens, happens. If we get a fine day we should have a few bikes.
Mrs. W is going to do the Honda shop in Bay View.
Keep at it people. Cheers

Yes June comes before July.
The June issue of Motorcycle Trader is already in the shops.
The July issue goes on sale mid June..(with me so far?)
Shane will have something in the 'July' issue (on sale mid June) about What we are all doing. (still with me?)
June 28 comes around (July issue in the shops with a brief on whats going on)
Shane will then (after being on the ride with us) do an article for the August issue (on sale mid July)

Also noticed an ad in last nights paper about the HB ride...I don't know who organised that...but fantastic!!

No, there are some rumblings down there too. Both unrealone and griffin are talking of something happening, unrealone has organised a bunch to ride up to meet Manawatu on their ride.

Perhaps you can meet up with the Auckalnd ride on the Saturday if you are in Auckland. We are gathering at Botany Honda at 9am and then we will be back meeting at Mechanics Bay for a helicopter base visit at about 5pm.

Dont stress mate. I have put an order in for fine, sunny skies, with nothing more than a gentle breeze for all of us riding out around the country on the day.
Mind you that may mean a really cold start, but glorious sunshine later. Do you think may be I should ammend it to grey skies, no rain, no wind? That will give a more mild overall temp I guess. :sunny:
The Marketing Manager for Westpac is offering a heap of helicopter money boxes to our rides, use them for decoration on your bikes, prizes or whatever. Her thinking is that it is a visual aid to the fundraising. We are saying yes to them. Do you guys want some too?

No problem with some not donating. They came on the ride and that was great. As this is a fund raiser it is a voluntary donation. It has made some money for the Chopper and spread the word about the WRB. A great result.

Heartfelt Thanks and Appreciation
To all those folk that helped make this most deserving fund raising event such a success..... please except our most heartfelt thanks and appreciation.
*To all the riders and pillions that paid for the privilege to participate.....
*To the 'Bucket Shakers' that trawled the streets.....
*To those that worked tirelessly behind the scenes to organize this event.....
*To the sponsors and business's that gave and continue to give.....
*To the families and friends that gave their support.....
*To the public that gave not only their money but also their encouragement.....
You can all feel extremely proud of your efforts
It was indeed a privilege to lead such a ride. Any anxious thoughts I initially had with such a diverse group coming together for the first time (many having never ridden on Group Rides before) were quickly dispelled. I feel extremely proud to be called a biker....and to my lovely wife and family...thanks for your support and encouragement, I love you all very much..... cheers W

Even though I was caged for the entire thing (like some restless tiger!) it was fantastic to be a part of it, made all the more poignant by the news of Scott's untimely death.
We have thoughts about next years but will leave that for a debrief after we have farewelled Scott.....

They have presented a fantastic photo of the helicopter performing a sea rescue with Cape Kidnappers in the background, and a letter of thanks and a receipt.
Only problem is it is presented to "John Baine" rather than Kiwibiker HB...but is here for all who want to see it. It will have pride of place on the gargre wall.

I know a few that have had the wallnut job George. They are fine and have been for many years mate. A bit scarry to be the one in line for the OP but from what I have seen it works well and life is good after the OP. Thinking of you mate.
And Dooly mate. You are tuff. You have been there before. This one will be a piece of cake compared to the others. You will be fine and we might even visit from time to time to make sure you are not harassing the nurses. I am sure we can help in the recovery. :apint: :2thumbsup
