Not happy...
Will take all the extras off and stuff like that and see how it changes.
EDIT. Knocked off all mods and dropped value on each bike by $1k. Quote stays the same.
EDIT 2. Took off convictions, price dropped by $500 to $3601
Realistically, with any insurance company, how much are any of you guys (young preferably) paying to insure 2 bikes?

Bugger boy! Clean up your act and stay fine free for the next 5 years and you'll see the preimum drop to less than $400.

I took off the fines, quote only dropped $500.
This is like a murder.
I really only want protection from theft, if I crash (well then its my own damned fault) and if someone else takes me out then they get taken to the cleaners by my lawyer.
In the UK, TPFT is a shite load cheaper than Full comp, whearas here the differerence is tiny.

I dont know why they would want to know about shit like removing indicators etc, they just use them to put the premium up.
But don't forget that omitting relevant information (i.e., information they think relevant, even if you don't) in an application gives them an excuse to declare the policy null & void if you make a claim.
$415 per year fully comp for a 2006 GSX750F
$312 per year fully comp for a 1998 Ducati 600ss
No mods, no convictions and I'm an old fart. Just thought I'd give you something to look forward to. :)

You're not 17 or 18 are you ?
Talk to Kiwibike man! They'll give you a good deal. Dave.
Or alernatively put it under your old mans name ;)
Id be better off putting $4k a year into a savings account as my own insurance policy... and every 3 years my own insurance would be able to buy me a new bike If i have an intact no-claims bonus.
:D

Nah 21.
If I put it in my old mans name and I crashed into a ferrari, I wouldnt be covered. Most policies only cover unnamed riders if they are over 25.

Ill have a yarn with Dave at Kiwibike at somepoint, I think hes finished wallpapering so should be able to help
Have you had quotes from several companies?
I was quoted a huge range of premiums and excesses when I was shopping around for full insurance for the sherpa - from $400 a year with a $250 excess, to $950 a year, with a $1000 excess
you're young and you have convictions....thats just the way it is
don't crash
edit: Rosie is right tho....the range of quotes you get from different agents is ridiculous...pays to shop around

I look forward to hearing what price Kiwibike come back with.

Id be better off putting $4k a year into a savings account as my own insurance policy...Of course you are. Unless you are statistically uninsurable you will always be better off. Insurance companies are a business, designed to make money from you. Either they make money, or you do. Next time you walk past their concrete, glass, and stainless-steel towers, ask yourself which away around it is.
And if you ARE statistically uninsurable, it is time for a rethink. Before you get dead, son.

Mate - you're a nice guy and all but please don't tell me this all came as a surprise.... have you read your own signature?
In case you missed it...
Rebellion record since 2007
Total Fines paid | $3,290
Total Demerits | 305
Total time suspended | 420 days
What exactly did you expect?
R6_kid
9th May 2008, 15:07
what company is this with?
I've got 3 tickets, one was instant suspension, all up i got an extra 3month suspension from demerits, and one (bullshit) charge for passing on a yellow line... no insurance company wanted to talk to me last time i rang up which was in January.
Im 21 and claim-free for 2 years when I was insured, i also drive a volvo ffs.
Tickets are 15 over in a 100 (due to drop off soon), 58 over in an 80, and 25 over in a 100 - all open road.
Bah my 3rd party cost me $80/year. And $60 of that is states "minimum charge fee".
The other $1300/year goes into my bank account. I'm due for a new bike in 2009
Suppose the questions are:
Am I going to crash
Are my bikes going to get stolen.
Generally No, I do my upmost to prevent them (as we all do)
But then theres the time when god rams a giant stick up your arse for no apparent reason...
Driving convictions in theory should have nothing to do with it (unless they are DIC charges) as in no way do they suggest that I could crash.
Ive never binned from fanging it (probably wouldnt be here If i did) and all crashes (except once that the ATNR crew will know about) have either been someone elses fault, or very slow speed drops that wouldnt be worth claiming.
Wonder if its possible to insure a bike as an asset and nothing more, so if it gets damaged or stolen, I can claim - nothing to do with actually riding.

:lol::lol::lol::lol:
Of course they do - they show that you are a immature fool who rides like an idiot. If you ran the insurance company and had someone with zero convictions and someone with:
Total Fines paid | $3,290
Total Demerits | 305
Total time suspended | 420 days
How could you honestly say that there is no more liklyhood of the later having an accident.
Wonder if its possible to insure a bike as an asset and nothing more, so if it gets damaged or stolen, I can claim - nothing to do with actually riding.
And then you get the problems of what happens if you ride into someone with a 100k car (like happened to my son last week).

i have 37 yrs full licence class 6, and 1, i had full cover on a fully customised fatboy valued at 50k which is really under valued, in 2006 for the same bike it cost me $1100 with Star insurance, had a no fault accident in jan 07 i got knocked off by a guy who ran a red light, and hit me in the back, i was ok bike took seven months to get repaired and back to me, the driver got off with divertion.
i changed my insurance company as i wasnt happy with lentgh of time for repairs, went to NAC they quoted me $1220 fully comp i pays my money, got knocked off again by another cage doin a three point turn right in front of me, repairs cost 20k and five months i jumped up and down all the time repairs were being carried out, parts were sent by boat, i had offerd to pay towards air frieght if they used third party liabilty i was ignored, the driver got banned for six monthes and orderd to pay reparation to me, i have to have surgery on a damaged socket in my shoulder.
march the 6th 08 i get a letter saying that my insurance will not be continued after the policy ends, i was declined cover as they say " i expect too much of them, and they cannot meet my expectaitions" and they stated why do i ride such an expensive bike !! why drive a ferrari ? they even told me to sell it and buy a cheaper bike, or even better buy another bike for every day use. no thought from them how i was to afford the extra bike, plus running costs, then they suggested that i should under value my bike !!. i have never had a ticket not even a parking ticket my licence is spotless its just a shame the insurance companies dont all play on a level field my 60% no claims means nothing. my bike is for sale im paying an arm and a leg for insurance and very disalusioned with the legal ripoffs that these big companies can get away with. god knows what will happen when compulsary insurance is brought in.

Very nice bike Dave, I still think it is too nice to be riding around on everyday. How did you go with your idea of getting a cheaper "everyday" bike to ride?
Also, have a look on Trade Me, bike trader for comparable bikes to base some pricing on.

Good Afternoon David, my name is Jarrard Ahlers, I am the Business Manager for NAC Insurance. I can certainly understand that you are not happy with the decision for NAC to renew your bike policy, however we believe this is the best outcome for both parties. You mention that you still feel "aggrieved" about the handling of your claim and that is of some concern to me. The reality is, that if you had another claim of a similar nature, there is nothing really that NAC or our providers would do differently, and hence our decision not to continue with your cover. You own a customised Harley, and as such, any repair work will take longer than a standard model.
Whilst IAG does have a large chunk of the insurance market there certainly are other bike insurance providers out there, including Swann Insurance, a speciality bike insurer, and part of IAG. Please be aware that our decision not to renew in no way precludes you from applying to other IAG owned/branded insurance providers and go through the normal acceptance procedures.

We, well pay hefty prices for hefty bikes.
I seriously consider the my 929 is probably gonna be the flashest bike I will ever buy.
Of course unless when I graduate and I start raking in all the cash like a coporate pig that I am going to be. :msn-wink:
I know how you feel, sometimes I wonder why the fark I even bother riding such a big bike in the first place when I live so farking close to the city!
I think it's back to cycling and perhaps even a scooter in the distance future..

2 options come to mind Morcs.
Go for a multi bike policy. Only one bike may be in use at a time.
Only cost me a little more (from memory $100) than insuring just the most expensive bike to have full cover on 3.
Try out an insurer whom specialise in shall we say "people like you", National Auto Club or TIS

Am I going to crash
Are my bikes going to get stolen.
No mate, the question is: Am I going to hit some cunt in a beemer? If you, rather unfortunately, hit some gravel/diesel and your bike lowsides into a 5 series ... you could be looking at 30-40k before you start to include the cost of the bike, gear, etc. None of this would be your fault, but you'd be paying anyway.
This is why bike insurance is expensive. This is why we pay it anyway.
Aside: So, effectively we end up paying to insure some 50-something fat bastard's merc. Because if everyone drove around in Toyota Corollas then our insurance would be much cheaper. Hmmmm.

No offence mate but would you insure a 19 year old on a TL1000? Fuckin sure I wouldn't. Try investing in a garage too. Having a late jap bike outside a night will have made a huge difference to the premium.
Also, it's not whether you can pay for your own bike...it's the risk of you smacking into someone's Mercedes or other expensive car that's the risk.

Why yes, I think Gareth should be doing that from time to time.
Don't worry, I shall draw this post to his attention and when he realises you are disapointed with his performance I am sure he will try harder.
Maybe they have read your signature and previous posts about how many tickets/suspension you have and thought 'whatever'

Sorry dude but I wouldn't touch ya with a 10 foot pole if I was in the insurance game. 3 suspensions in 3 years? Cmon.
For the record I was paying a shade over $1000 to fully insure my R1 when I was 21. I'm 27 now and its just over $600 a year for the Ducati.

Nail. Head.
You got it.
He was lucky to get a price at all.
I'd say his only other chance would be NAC, but the premium would still be moonbeams.
From my point of view, I'd pissed off if my insurer took this guy, because it would be my premiums fixing his bike. Anyone who's got a record like that (and is proud of it) is a claim in waiting.

o your so right im selling it coz the insurance cost is far too exesive to ride, so i lose my freedom of choice, i have raced and rode bikes for most of my life, im gettin old ( 50 ) and cant be botherd folding myself up to fit a racing bike anymore, so i ride a cruiser, a harley frame but not a harley motor (1633cc). single seat fully customised and show winner. i was happy with it, until the legal mafia ( insurance ) decided that i couldnt afford it and took my right away. i could go third party but its too much of a risk, so i will sell it and get a cruiser not botherd if its a jap or whatever as long as the cover is cheap and the bike gets me there and back, cant ask for much else.
