Hey all, thought I'd let you know that I'm now back in Auckland as of 1am today, after spending a month on Great Barrier - mainly on Kaikoura Island, but also down on the Broken Islands for a week - Its interesting being back in civilisation, but I was kinda getting to like the fresh seafood and relaxed lifestyle out there - the price for food and petrol is horrific, but apart from that it is a great place to spend some time.
Main mode of transport was kayaks, and I spent a large amount of time living and working on largely uninhabited islands... Going to get out on the bike this afternoon for the first time in a month - should be ineresting trying to start the beast

13,229 new posts to read - how do you guys post so much rubbish???? Could someone give me a rundown of the salient points this month?

Read the christmas party thread - sorry to hear it was wet, but it sounded alright anyway....Where and when is the next ride?

Photos coming up when I sort out which ones of the 200-odd look the best...

I went to Wellington and rode back on a Zeal. Yeeeeeehaw. Frosty got the FXR.

Frosty also got engaged to the imaginatively-named Pillion, presumably because of general irresistibleness to fairer sex of said blue Suzuki.

Also on the New Bike front, firestormer is now vifferman, the Trashman has a gixer thou, SpankMe has a GB500TT, and Ching has an XB12R. Apologies if I missed anyone.

And Brian Tamaki is Evil, and we all like Buells.

Summary as follows:

-- Car drivers suck
-- But not as much as old cunts with small dicks who can't do wheelies
-- Penis size is directly proportional to the size of the bike you ride
-- School holidays have a lot to answer for
-- All cops are arseholes
-- Brian Tamaki sucks
-- Noise objectors to Western Springs speedway suck
-- Lynda Blair has a virus
-- Some folk have no bike to ride for Christmas
-- Twisties are good
-- No, you can't modify your bike if you don't have any money
-- Fullstops and capital letters appear to be going the way of the apostrophe
-- There's little to get excited about regarding the offering of new bikes for 2005
-- There's no such thing as a new new joke joke...

Additions to the summary:

- Spelling a word "desparate" is overly confusing - do you mean disparate or desperate?
- There's a lot of cool KBers out there
- Frosty likes burnouts
- Speeding is either bad or good
- The law might be the law, but we're gonna bitch about it anyway
- Zed doesn't bite on "the disciples were gay" trolls
- The Welsh English and Scots don't get on unless they are ganging up on one of the others - (usually against the English)
- Lovely weather for the time of year, Eh?

Glad to see you back - How were the rats?

-- and Jim2 is one of the "no bike for Xmas" brigade and isn't riding at the moment.

-- The LTSA doesn't exist anymore, but Land Transport NZ does. Hasn't stopped cops being "arseholes" as they take their orders from Police HQ.

-- The road toll for the holiday period has started early.

What they said - I think they've about summed it all up.

Oh - and jrandom is a triple whore (which you probably noticed from his post header) and so he's responsible for all the postings. On his own.
Although I may have helped a little - over 2000 posts since March. My bad.

And as JR said - I've had a NomenclaturiticalMetamorphosis, for which you can blame the space aliens who turned my wife into a pod person who made me buy a new bike (that blue thing up the top left).

XJ/Frosty has also joined the PipeNSlippersBrigade with the acquisition of a VFR750.
Oh and the eedjits are breeding fast on here. :bash:

If you start to miss the rats, we've got some at home you can play with (Houdini, Shibby and Bruce).

Are you new here?

For those of us without bikes for various reasons,or just plain wanted a fang on a dunger - Milky loaned us all some old crap R65 with a green seat....you may have heard about Frostie's burn outs and other mayhem...it wouldn't of been as much fun without the loaner - thanks Milky....

I lost all reason and sold those nearest and dearest to me....as I am Irish the money is all spent and I have nothing to show for it....

Hmmmm. I'm very good at snap-trapping them/bashing the over the head, and removing small parts of their bodies to put in vials of ethanol..... I take it these ones have been around for a while, seeing as they've got names?

I can also put them in big jars of ethanol for you if you want to souvenir them....

So what do you still have and what did you get for the rest of em?

Oh yeah and the R65 started without major complaints - just a little battery boost after running once.... Thanks to you all for taking care of my bike and keeping her running.... very community minded of you....

Still, gotta take it for a long ride soon to blow out the cobwebs - both bike and rider...

Piccies below - 1 and 3 from where we stayed on Kaikoura island for the majority of the time - in a "resort" with an old pool table and taps etc
- 2 is from just round the corner
- 4 is our modes of transport - kayaks being towed back from the Broken Islands (Pig Islands) into Fitzroy

More piccies - this time from coming back on the ferry last night....

Dead calm too :) the morning run had 4m waves, we had about 1.5m at most... and it was supposed to be bad today too...

Here's a map http://www.thebarrier.co.nz/Map.htm - the broken islands are those ones between B1 and C1

Or here for a wider view included at the bottom: http://www.greatbarrier.co.nz/GBIVIC/gbi_info.htm

Pic 4 - Leaving Fitzroy at about 8pm
Pic 3 - Pretty self explanatory
Pic 2 - Little Barrier

but i sense a slightly cycnical undertone in some of those summaries (don't make me site examples). Makes me think some of y'all don't appreciate the diversity of a forum like this?

Hell, i think if half the people contributing didn't have this forum to vent on you'd be in an overly tight, slightly unfashionable outfit that makes it hard to scratch where it itches.

I'm also pretty sure the bs factor is like the property market in it's waxing / waning aspect.

So on behalf of all the dickheads, cocksuckers, idjits, wankers, nobends, dumb / arrogant bastards who've bothered to post - cheers! you've made my days more interesting.

In fact, cheers to everybody else....

TY Motoracer, and Goatfood, yes is was.... definitely very scenic....

Manuboy - I'm well and truly aware that the summaries are pithy, and will never do it justice.... But these summaries are a welcome feature for those of us who are away occasionally....They provide a useful function in informing, in a humourous way, the awayee of the proceedings in the absence of said awayee. While they may be a little cynical, isnt that supposed to be good for the constitution?

Most of the latest crop of "eedjits" are illiterate, so a "backfoot war" would be largely futile.

However a two-paragraph post appears to have them whacked as their attention span doesn't run to more than one sentence unless that first sentence contains the words "cop" or "wheelie".

The unfortunate price we appear to pay for school holidays. Sigh.

Diversity and entertainment is what makes our gargre a most enjoyable place to be! I am a staunch supporter of freedom of expression. However when this "expression" goes on and on and on and on and on and bloody on, and nowhere, and then gets personal, that's when my dander goes up.

The recent offensive on our brethren who are law enforcement officers is one particularly unsavoury example of what I consider repulsive inanity (note the tactic of starting a second paragraph? Let's see if it works...).

Things have got to a low ebb when I am driven to consider using the "ignore" facility.

I take your point. A lot of posts aren't worth the "screen estate". But that's the nature of the beast. Walk into a pub and eavesdrop on most conversations, they wouldn't stand publication on a forum such as this. A lot of people talk shite a lot of the time. And so on...

[2nd paragraph] I don't really mind too much what people do and say here. I say the test of their mettle is how they ride. I'll take one ride with anyone. If'n i don't wanna take a second ride with them they go on my ignore list...

And how come i got away with spelling cycnical like that hmmm? I'd like a stern reprimand forthwith!

Good photos, PT.

What camera were you using? I suspect you've posted about your camera before, so forgive my senility.

Kodak DX6490 - 4MP, 10X optical zoom, F-stop 2.8-8.0, shutter speeds 1/1000 to 16 seconds, full manual mode, 256MB MMC card, (wank wank wank :D)

I also took a tripod but didnt use it for those photos.

I do like the camera - the manual mode is easy to use, rechargable batteries, big LCD screen, good menus and joystick to use it - only letdown is the dial for changing modes, which is hard to turn. I'd also like a greater range of F-stop values, but oh well.

The batteries last for about 300 photos if you dont use the LCD screen too much (use the little electronic viewfinder instead) or the flash. I took 2 fully charged Li-ion batteries (1700mAH), and used about 1.5 over the month.

Oh and FF - basically we had one day raining all day, and another 3 or 4 with a few showers. The problem was the wind (most days at least 20knots, if not 30) which made it hard to kayak around, and got the chop up a bit which meant we got wet.... Had only 3 or 4 calm days over the month.... Would be a great place to have a dirt bike over there.... mostly gravel, thin twisty roads...Only one cop....
