Its with a sad heart Im selling Mella Yella My ZXR400 Race bike.
Some up and coming racer is going to get a ready to ride/race bike.
I've poured a truckload of money and time into this bike.
Just to recap the past few months.
1) purchaced from motoracer for $2000 as a bike used for the odd track day.
It came with glass fairings already but was a bit of a mess.
2) cosmetics stripped off and repainted
3) several broken brackets replaced or rewelded. a multitude of new brackets manufactured.
4)Front suspension stripped out and rebuilt, steering head bearings replaced.
swingarm and rear suspension removed and all pivots cleaned and relubricated.
5)engine removed and stripped down, Clutch rebuilt.
Bore honed, crank and little end bearings checked. piston crowns polished.New rings fitted, Head stripped out and totally decarboned,3 face cut on all valves.some valves replaced. All valve guide seals replaced
6) carbs stripped out and rebuilt. rejetted -x about 10
7) total loss ignition fitted. standard charging system still available
8) GPR70 tyres used front and rear.
9) Front brakes stripped and rebuilt New brake pads fitted.
10) new sprockets/chain fitted. different gearing aranged to suit different tracks.
11) cooling system opened up for better cooling.
12.instrument cluster rebuilt for better instrument visibility.
13) It came with a free flow exhaust system and muffler but its since been tuned for better flow.
14 as at today it has a brand new set of GPR70's on it .
Thats the stuff I can remember but theres heaps more.
Theres a few guys that can testify to how strong and reliable the bike has become.other than a bit of teething trouble with the total loss and swapping batteries.
The handling seems to be spot on for a learner racer. Very forgiving.
Oh and I haven't disturbed the subframe or wiring loom so It could arguably be turned back into a kickass road bike. -probably the fastest zxr400 on the road.
Shit I cant go On .
If anybodys interested Give me a call.

Ummm, for those who havent followed this saga from day one, howabout some info as to what model you have and how much you think you want for it. Fastest ZXR ehh, you are sadly mistaken there, boyo, the fastest ZXR lives in the South Island AKA ex Andy Bolwell, now owned by some young lad in Greymouth ! Anyway got any decent pictures of it? Is it an H model?

Anyone interested in getting Frosty's race bike, here is a complete extra frame/subframe/swingarm assembly for it with $60 reserve:

http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Motors/Motorbikes/Motorbike-Parts/Frames-suspension-bodywork/auction-20214747.htm

A little bit of a dent in the frame from a tank slappper but doesn't look too bad.

I guess it goes without saying that if a KB member buys the bike my gargre would be available for assistance for normal pre raceday servicing and so forth :headbang:

Mella Yella is good for 220-230kph down the back straight of Pukekohe. I've had the misfortune of "wanting just a bit more" trying to catch it.

Although don't take the "fastest zxr on the road" quote too seriously guys....its just the car salesman in Frosty coming out :)

P.S. Oi Frosty make sure my spare rear shock and clutch assembly don't end up in that box of race spares - might be needing it this Tuesday at Taupo!!!!!

The main problem with yellow bikes,

you see,

if I'm going to be completely honest in my aesthetic assessment, here,

is their colour.

how much was the respray? i got a quote of $1600.....said "Fuck it" and now am attempting with cans.
Mind due, ill prob only end up scratchn it anyway.
Was there different swingarms for the 400's? cos ive got my bike sittin next to my mates (both 89's) and my swingarm is completely diff to his, and mine has a green shock that looks bigger.
Reason why im askn is i need the little chain guard piece that goes on behind the hugger.
Handles a little better then his too - but this may just be the settings.
:spudwhat:

FROSTY
24th December 2004, 16:33
different bikes -the 89 had all the choice stuff on it -adjustable cams -ic box is different and they had a better rear shock. Ya need the H1

depends too whether you may have a ZX400M as opposed to the H and later model L, versions. On your headstock should have something like this, the M model is the SP version with all sorts of extra goodies!

I thought the SP model had extra goodies? Does that mean the M has extra EXTRA goodies?

Goodies... goodie goodie yum yum

*breaks into the Goodies theme*

No M = SP, sometimes a bike is advertised as an SP but may not be real McCoy.

28th December 2004, 22:49
yeh sorry about the confusion here, my mate has a black sp......exactly the same as mine. But my swingarm, shock is completely different design - looking around it kinda looks like a 750 shock setup.
Damn i wish i still had my camera - cos its like tryin to desribe the colour orange
anyhow, have a good en

well anyhoo This bike --the bike Im selling is a H which means it has the adjustable cams, remote resevoir rear shock and as I understand it the least restricted motor. For racing it also means that in pacific club at taupo you could enter 3 classes. F3, Pre 89 and F2 and at AMCC you can enter pre89 and F3 --so ya get twice the racing for the same money

So when are you going to tell us what you're moving to?

Coz I know you're not selling your baby to pay for a wedding or bills or something silly. That would be plain wrong?

NC30 maybe? RVF?
