View Full Version : Stag-night in Hamilton

So, one of my mates have decided to get married...
Which he took care of in Germany about a month ago.
Anyway, he's now throwing a party for his friends in and around NZ and we have been advised that a "pseudo-stag-night" is to be held in Hamilton on a thursday evening.
My question, since there seems to be a fair amount of people from the Tron on here, is: "What can you do in Hamos on a thursday night that can fit in with a stagnight and gross intoxication?"
I don't know the town and thus have no idea besides the usual (streaking, swimming in the river and getting arrested - in that order).
All good (and bad) ideas will be appreciated!
The groom, and several of us hangers-on, appreciates good music so if there are any live-music venues/jamming sessions in Hamilton that might be an idea.

Will bear those places in mind, cheers! :)
....Drive to Auckland?
Doubt we'll all fit into one car - besides, being the designated driver would have to suck!
And, we could probably get mugged in Hamilton as well if we put our mind to the task ;)

lol what he said.
Showgirls on Custom St then to The White House on upper Queen then hit the clubs on K Rd, the Tron can't match that.........Hillcrest Tavern?

The word club just evokes some bad emotions for me though :(

Make it a race to Auckland - hitch-hiking...
Each one with something different to carry....
One an axe
Two a sheep
And three a blow up doll
Then you got yourself the makings of a stag party

True that - but the thing is:
1. It's a pseudo stag-night as they are already lawfully wed.
2. It mustn't require any coordination whatsoever.

Auckland, yeah right, Hamilton would have ten times better nightlife than Auckland, one hamilton city block 40 bars n Clubs in it.
Auckland could have that many bars possibly one day if they can get resource consent and other technicalities out of the way (AS IF)
Thursday Night Hammy ROCKS
You get the van I will do the driving !

we spent many thursday nights in hamilton , cause akld nite life was crap, we used to get a sober driver and come down after work, then head home in the wee small hours to akld

There wouldn't be enough safety gear in this entire world for me to get on the back of that bike

As Triboy says Altitude rock, but I am bias cos I work there. Thursdays at Altitude gonna be good for the next few weeks, as per below. As has been mentioned above the vast majority of Hamiltons bars are in one city block, at the southern end of the CBD (Victoria / Hood / Alexandra /Collingwood).
Altitude (http://www.altitude.net.nz/) (Alexandra St) is mostly 18-25's, plays a mix of stuff but msotly "get up and dance" kinda stuff.
Monkey Feather (http://www.monkeyfeather.co.nz/) (Alexandra St) plays electronica for all the ravers.
Charmers (http://charmers.co.nz/) (Alexandra St) is mostly maori/PI patrons, plays hiphop etc, and can be a bit rough at times.
Billy's (Victoria St) or Hyperdome (http://www.thehandleclub.com/2007/02/hyperdome-karaoke-sports-bar-hamilton.html) (Alexandra St) for karaoke, Hyperdome also has a fuckload of pool tables. Mostly asian patrons but friendly enough to anyone.
Axces mostly plays rock/metal, local band Chuganaut (http://www.chuganaut.com/) are a regular band.
Shine (Victoria St) is the local gay bar
Caz Bar (http://www.cazbarandcaffe.co.nz/) (Marketplace) is a small cozy cafe/bar that often has live bands
The Bank (http://www.thebank.co.nz/) (Cnr Victoria/Hood) is generally an older / suit market, but livens up a bit later on in the night.
Digger's (http://www.diggersbar.co.nz/hp1.asp)(Hood St) is pretty much the 35+ meat market, but almost always has live bands and a raging crowd.
Bahama Hut (http://www.thebahamahut.co.nz/) (Alexandra St) is affectionaly known as Bahama Slut or the slut, is pretty much the 18-25 meat market.
Plenty of other good bars around, the only one I'll go out of my way to NOT recommend is The Outback, they are pretty much fuckwits, the hospos from most of the other bars dont get on with them and they shit on customers alot. Outback, along with Altitude & Bahama Hut are the main bars for the "student" market, but Outback's attitude is by far the worst of all the bars in town.
Upcoming at Altitude (http://www.altitude.net.nz/):
Friday 16th May: Tahuna Breaks live, reggae/funk band, $10 covercharge
Thursday 22nd June: Wet Tshirt Heat 1
Thursday 29th June: Wet Tshirt Heat 2
Thursday 05th June: Wet Tshirt Heat 3
Thursday 12th June: Wet Tshirt Finals.
Thursday 24th July: Shihad live!!! (Oh fuck yeah!)
PS: Altitudes website has a huge gallery with pics from past bikini comps and wet tshirt comps. Enjoy :-)

I'm outta bling for the moment - but nice write up Lias.
I don't know all of the people in the group, but I'd say we're likely to be a bunch of rather diverse fellas in the range of 27-35 years of age. Many of whom enjoy good music and good drinks.
Good to have an idea about where to go

Mate dont even sweat it, the bars are all so close just pick n choose as you walk around the block, its such an easy place to go out, no travelling in cars or taxis between bars just a 5 sec walk from one to the other.

Sounds like it - and good to hear. I've never been out in Hamos before, just good having an idea about what to expect.
400 m Pub crawl could be the nights first discipline...

If you went to every bar in that area, and just had one drink you'd probably run the risk of death by alchohol poisoning :-)

Must admit I found Hamilton on a thursday night a disappointment...
The groom was entirely too happy about putting on his skimpy costume and the night passed way too quickly before he got 'ill' and had to be taken home...
Anyway, time to sleep!

Ah well, you tried!
But maybe you should tell him it wasn't good enough and you need to repeat on a monthly basis until you get it right.

Seemed like a fizzle... I recall that there were quite a few people at Bahamas Hut - however, they wouldn't admit the groom due to his get-up. :tugger:
Not to worry though, 30 mins saw him sitting, spitting into the gutter outside Hyperdome or whatever that Karaoke place was called. Another mate and I took him home in a cab - luckily he managed to keep a lid on things until we had vacated said taxi and were walking down their driveway.
We tucked him in, forcing him to drink a lot of water (with a small amount of salt of course)... Then there was nothing much to do besides waiting for the girls to finish their event so his wife could get back and keep an eye on things. Luckily there was a bottle of Laphroiagh to keep me entertained in the meantime. :D

I should! I shall not make that mistake another time
Still, we were about 20 people - we should have been able to get it going ok. Unfortunately it was kinda a non-event - no organisation and a loosely knit crowd. However, that's what the groom wanted I believe... :argh:
So where did you guys go?
