On the weekend, we took our 15year old son over to Tauranga for his Basic Handling Skills Course and he blew it away! The instructor said he was very impressed with son's balance and control of the bike.
Then today, during lunch break, it's off down to the AA to do the 'scratchies' for both bike and car. So now my son is an L-plate driver and rider!
I feel sooooo proud and yet sooo nervous and can't quite believe I have a 15 year old who is allowed to drive! Seems like yesterday he was born!!
Now for the hard yards....

Exciting times aye
Congrats. I hope you have given him the extra training that the bloody LTSA SHOULD be giving learner drivers/riders

Well done! It's a big occasion to have your young ones legally able to take to the road. I wish him all the very best with his riding, and you and DB some great family rides with him.

Hooray! It's great that his parents ride so you can really understand rather than just getting all nervous and telling him motorbikes are dangerous! Wow - a whole new stage of freedom for him.

Woo hoo!! :2thumbsup Congrats - I can understand how proud you would be feeling about now! My eldest got his first 4WD truck when he was 12 (yes 12) and is now - at 13 - going on driver training days and driving up and down mountains and through rivers. 10yr old twins just got an RM80 each for their birthday ....... I am nervous too!
Hugs to another Mummy

Hey, well done him and you for being supportive. Did all that stuff on Friday. Two English NZ conversions, 5 eye tests plus an extra 40 scratchies for my bike and two attempts by the daughter.
I make that 200 scratch and sniffs and a whole lot of dollars. Never mind, at least I can still ride. :scooter:

He will be getting all the extra training his very committed parents are able to give him.

Hey, thanks, Princess... You've met him, so you have a little insight into his character.
awesome!!!
Yeah, it is! I'm absolutely stoked!

Yeah, none of us have done trackdays yet, but have plans to do these, that's for sure!

Yeah, I only just got my learners a couple of months ago, so I have some very recent experiences of learning.

A sobering experience I saw this afternoon, just after I had dropped him off at his after school job (and a damn shame he didn't get to witness it too) was a motorcyclist I saw coming up behind me, so I pulled left for him to lane split past me and the van I was following (with the pussiest white? indicators - seem to be the coolest, latest gadget to put on the back of your van) indicated at the last second and veered diagonally across the right hand lane to a driveway in front of the accelerating bike!!!:shit: How the hell the kid on the bike managed to avoid colliding with it stunned and amazed me! I estimate he missed the back of the van by about 2 inches. I know it was a kid on the bike because he was kitting up at the same High School my kids go to! I was kicking myself I pulled to the left as an invitation for him to split past me:(
Now you have to start watching your bike keys.
Heh! He has an after-school job so he can purchase his own bike, but in the meantime.... yeah, for sure!!:shit:

and Dad took him for his first driving lesson around an abandoned industrial subdivision. Well, it was abandoned after we finished there, LOL. Cue people running for their lives! :sweatdrop

Yay BC and DB and congrats Somtin :scooter:
I really hope that Ryans vision will allow him to one day throw a leg over - but if not It will still be cool even when he old enough to just go on the back with us for good fun rides.
Kids are soo kewl and it must be soo kewl to have your kids at a stage where you can truely share motorbikes with them.
Congrats and hugs
