GN250 regulator/rectifier u/s.

Riding home other night,stop at traffic lights,HMMM why gear indicator light so dim,bike cut out shit.Try start ,nothing,try crash start nothing.5 Km push bike home,stuffed.Battery hasn't been holding charge of late,get new one.Now just need to fit battery then all should be good.No still dead as a door nail :mad:.Check fuse,HMMM,burnt.Replace fuse,instant blow.Put multimeter between red lead and ground,continuity HMMM,thats not right,must have dead short somewhere.Will go look at manual on computer.F@#$%n :mad: computer won't open manual .Strip bike down ,look for chaffing wiring,nothing.Check ignition and kill switches all good.Unplug everything,start checking for short to ground while systematically plugging things back in.Hello when I plug in regulator/rectifier it shorts red lead to ground.Unplug it put new fuse in,hey everything works and can even start bike.Plug rectifier back in,instant fuse melt.Conclusion rectifier u/s,cost new one $220(or $250 from Holeshot) and no stock,will have to wait a week.waaaaaah :angry2:.Where can I get a cheaper one?So ends my sad tale.Aparrently chinese GN's are pretty good at blowing their cheap rectifiers so be warned.Mine has done 19000Km.

your one. My rectidier regulator fried itself last week too. Hence I'm here to find out if I rewire the new one in wrong, whether it will fry anything important i.e altenator or the likes. The new one I got was off a kr150,gonna hopefully go on gsx400.

I believe i still have a reg/rect off a GN on the bike im parting, flick me a pm if you want it

When I was working there, Henderson Motorcycles had aftermarket reg/recs. Reg/recs only have a few base configurations, it's just a matter of taking in your old one, they sell you a new one, you wire it up and install it.

Just a point too. If ya need to ride your bike for up to 30 minutes. Just unplug the charging system and ride

I feel your pain. I replaced many fuses and got the local crew to check it all out before I figured it out myself. I didn't find any cheap but got mine for cost from the local guys that didn't find the fault for ~$185.

Was too lazy to retype them, but here are x-referenced models with same regulator. See if you can can find one from one of those bikes.
May be cheaper/easier to get one from a different brand, or at least it gives you more choice from the wreckers or tardme.

Thanks for all the info guys,replaced it with 2nd hand one off an old Japanese,noticed it was much beefier so should hopefully last longer.:2thumbsup

damn, your lasted longer than mine. i only got 10,000 on mine before that started. was also the straw that broke my patience. she was traded in while still getting fixed for the rectifier. lol.
