I ride an XR400. The motor etc is all standard.

I usually use Gull petrol. From cold it will kick start in 6-7 kicks and first kick when hot.

The other day I was in a rush and got some Shell. After my ride I topped the tank up with the Shell. The next day, it was hard to start maybe 20 kicks. It started ok hot but then it stuttered a few times. The tank would have been 50/50 Gull/Shell.

Not realising it was the fuel I again topped the tank up with Shell. Next time I came to start from cold it just would not go. It would fire occasionally, but not keep going.

I drained the tank and carb and refulled with Gull and it went in the usual six kicks.

Is anyone else having fuel problems like this?

You should read your manual and see what octane is best for your machine. I highly doubt it will be the fuel itselfs fault.

I dunno.

My bike runs crap on Shell. 13.5-14 km/litre on Caltex.

11.6-12 km/litre on Shell.
