Dear all,

I often find crap on Trade Me (http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/www.trademe.co.nz) and other various sites that I either can't afford or can't make use of but think that someone else could benefit from, so here's the deal...I'll post links to that shit in here if you do the same.

Mods...perhaps this could become sticky.

Kind regards,

And to get the ball rolling:

This could make an OK track hack, looks like the ignition is rooted but otherwise ok.

I'll be into that. First up 17" wheels and front brakes. Jimjim's two NZ250s are for sale at just $1250 and you can sell the rest of the parts. Or just keep one set of wheels and sell the complete going bike.

TradeMe listing (http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=154760046)

As I have NZ250 wheels on the AX I don't need them...

Only fault is it needs new front disc - but there's none available.
Tidy it up, fix the disc, VHT the pipes and onsell it!

Just doublechecked the ad. The complete carb is the sidedraught one. Still no worries as it's a good carb as well and I think the bits from that will swap to the other.

Skunk
18th June 2008, 20:46
I'll see if the sidedraught fits the TF. If it does I'll take it.

speedpro
18th June 2008, 21:00
It'll fit. You need to make a flange with a tube sticking out which is the same OD and ID as the carb. The flange bolts up to the TF barrel and you put a bit of radiator hose over the tube and fit the carb in the other end. Couple of hoseclips and she's all good. I think I have a couple of those flange things round here somewhere. The radiator hose piece is only long enough to fit over the tube and the carb. The carb and the tube should be real close together but not touching for good airflow,

The carb you want to use is off a two smoker of double the size, a two smoker has double the induction cycles........Emultion tube, needle, both jets......get a 250 4 smoke carb, it will be less grief.

speedpro

I've done it. Due to the different intake pulses you will have to make changes. Size wise, just get one you think will be about right. Then the change to make is where air goes into the carb there will be a hole which supplies air to the emulsion tube. Cut a thread in that and put in something like a 110 main jet (small round slotted type fit nicely). You then make all the usual changes to get the jetting right. You "may" have to change the 110 jet but it will be a good place to start. I put some 26mm mikuni carbs from a RD250 onto a Honda 200 twin. Worked a treat.

I've used the TKRJ brand and found them to be very good. The last one did end up in lots of pieces but . . . . . .

The one listed looks to have blow by, going by the discolouring of the piston and going by the general grubby nature of the piston I would steer clear.

I've been keeping track of piston dimensions of the ones I've used. If you give me the dimensions of what you have I will see if anything compares, sort of.

The one listed looks to have blow by, going by the discolouring of the piston and going by the general grubby nature of the piston I would steer clear.

I've been keeping track of piston dimensions of the ones I've used. If you give me the dimensions of what you have I will see if anything compares, sort of.
got to get it out of the engine first...

I'm crazy even asking this ... do you still have it, and does the engine go? I think from previous discussions, the answer is probably no, which would be a relief.

Otherwise - I have another 2 (1 complete with dead/dying motor, 1 not) in a similar situation, if anyone's interested.

Yeah, It WAS running, with that nasty knock.
I havn't got it running again but have only devoted about 10 minutes to it.

I was liking the "Supermono" Bucket idea for a while because VTs are so commonly discarded it would end up being an engine for the price of the big ends and other broken bits. I would think that it COULD be made very fast because it could spin like a mofo but it also requires a heluva lot of time, somthing that I am finding less and less of spare...

I have this stuff in my garage and the likelihood of me ever using it is practically 0, so out it goes. Actually the likelihood of anyone wanting some of it is 0 as well but you never know.

Genuine Honda MB100 .25 over piston. Never used but prepped ready for use. It doesn't have it's tarnish preventing bag/wrap so the skirts are tarnished but it isn't anything you can feel. I also have a new single ring to fit this piston.

I also have a single ring for a MB100 .5 over. and a single TKRJ MB100 .75 over ring. These could be useful if someone just wants to freshen things up a bit.

This might be less useful but I have a stock MB100 piston with hardly any use. The top ring pin has fallen back allowing the ring to rotate which damaged the barrell but did no harm to the piston itself. A new pin could be pressed into the top groove over the 2nd groove pin.

MB100 .25 over piston and rings. At least I think it's a MB piston. It looks to be OK but has had a some use, not a lot, and has no damage(that matters). Could be a good spare.

The last piston is a Suzuki probably TS100 piston. I think it was one I played with. I taken a bit off the bottom of the skirt and relieved the bottom where it masks the transfer ports at BDC. It's 50mm and was only used for experimenting with intake port timing so has very little use.

I have what I have labelled TF100 rings. part # 12140-28630. They are brand new, the packet has not been opened. There's also a unopened packety of 1st(?) oversize TF100 rings part #12140-28630-050.

The last ring is probably a Suzuki RG400 ring part # 12140-20A12-000. Could be useful if you want to convert to RG pistons. These rings used to be really expensive. Especially if you were fitting new ring and piston after every 2nd meeting.

couple of other bits that might be useful are a 2mm spacer for putting inder a MB100 barrell and what is I think a carb adaptor for a TS100 barrell with a 32mm hole. This adaptor would be ideal for a hot TS100 to fit a 32mm carb.

Some of this stuff might be junk to most people but gold to others. I don't want much for any of this. Few beers, couple of $, drugs, you name it. I'm in clean out mode in the garage.

585 is the outside diameter in millimetres of the tyre when fitted to the correct rim. It's another way of indicating the aspect ratio but makes it easier when switching tyres to determine any gearing changes that may be needed due to differing tyre dimensions.

Nice one, thanks.

I'm not too sure. I used to fit them to really skinny RG50 rims but did used to have chicken strips so they probably needed wider rims. 2.5" "might" be a bit wide as they are old school slicks which generally were meant for fitment to narrower rims than the same size tyre nowadays. Probably 2.15" would be a good size rim for this tyre. I see it's an ultra soft so even if it is 20 years old it'll stick to anything .

I'm not sure though, about the size rims.

hi Pumba, great if we could revive the sidecars again. there are alot of old chassis around, but maybe it should be looked at reverting to the normal bike with sidecar welded on as they were when bucket sidecars first started, before people went for smaller wheels, and lots of engineering on them, which made it more expensive, whatever way i am keen on getting one as it will be easier on my leg than a solo

speedpro
27th September 2008, 18:35
Those original old bucket sidecars were a real problem. The later ones like those built in Palmerston north, by a guy who's name escapes me, were based on an original motorcycle frame but were modified to work with say 10" or 12" car style wheels. They weren't too costly and you got rid of all the problems caused by the original front forks and original motorcycle wheels. They were still pretty horrible compared to our sidecar which still only cost us $1000 or less including the big trailer it came on.

Its generally the way to buy them, the ones on trade me can sell for stupid money for what they are. I know two guys now that have brought only slight damaged runners one weekend, striped the fairings and been at the track the next for $800 - $900 total cost spent.

Actually no, This CDI is to be used in a total loss system designed to be a replacement to the points system. As stated other parts will be needed.

If you are really interested I can give a list of what is required to the buyer. The ability to make parts as well as purchase other parts will be needed.

It's worth the effort as there are considerable power gains to be acheived.
