23rd December 2004, 20:06
Seeing 1200 poeple missed out there must be a few planning on being in the district on the weekend of the 8th 9th Jan.
Meet Famous Kelly's Frankton Village diagonally opposite the BP, 2PM Sat 8th Jan.
On to GY, Awesome ride, GY pub for a quiet and back to 12 Mile camp for coldies. BYO tent, BBQ supplies. ( toilets only at the DOC 12 Mile )
Somebody local will volunteer the BBQ, (probably a fire ban on at the 12mile if summer kicks in)
Rsvp here

Well providing Manu's :sunny: is out then theres a good chance that I'll show, not sure bout a ride into Glenorchy as the rd's will be populated with horse flotes, hence the reason that the rally was cancled.

I WAS wondering if the annual Glenorchy Races had anything to do with the cancelling, shouldn't have as the organisers would have known about them all along.

Mind you, the trip up there would be more of a hazard with all the horse related traffic - floats, members of public in cages etc. :argh:

Yeah.... the races are usually the 1st w/e in Jan and the rally on the 2nd w/e...... but as the 1st w/e is actually new years day, in the wisdom of it all the horsey people decided to push the races to the next w/e........ and whos going to be seen as the riff raff and the proper people.... so we miss out. Would have been good if the horsy people had told the rally organisers but no we are just bikers and I think the owner of the land that the rally is on is also tied up with the races we dident stand a chance.

well thats true...... and if we make it there we can still get a Glenorchy rally badge at the cost of $5 each, that would be lejit wouldent it?
just have to post away for it any one can but at least we would have got there.... the organisers wouldent deserve one aye

I know where 12 Mile is and Moke Lake ain't that far away,if we stay at 12 Mile we could go for a ride to Moke Lake although I can't help with how good the road is/distance (not far at a guess) etc.

Instead of shilly-shallying around shall we fix on 12 Mile as camp spot and arrange things around that? Anybody agree? :ride:
Otherwise we will drift along, nobody will know what's going on and won't bother to turn up and procrastination and lethargy will win again. :disapint:

24th December 2004, 20:59
Campsite is the 12mile. Anyone wanting to ride a road bike up to Moke lake on a corrugated dirt track needs their head read but it's still a free country. Save it for Sunday.
I'll have to make enquiries about the race itinerary but I imagine most of the up traffic will be in the morning and the Friday evening so a Sat 3pm blat to GY won't encounter much in the way of wagon trains.

zooter
24th December 2004, 22:24
Yep, raceday is the Saturday, one unholy pissup unworthy of participation in by lawabiding bikers who will be riding back to the 12mile for theirs. Setoff time from Frankton of 2.30pm should catch last race of the day I'm betting. For the sake of getting some momentum going let's leave it as that and make a committment to turn up at Famous Kelly's 2pm. Bring it on.

Do google search on '12 mile delta' or 'moke lake' and you should bump into a D.O.C. map of the area.
It's about 14km up the road from Q'town towards Glenorchy.

With a bit of luck I'll catch up with the couple other people who had indicated that they were keen to join us on the GY rally tonight so will know for sure what our plans are then... at the moment the missus and I are still interested in heading down to 12mile, hopefully it won't be too much trouble convincing the others so long as they haven't already come up with other plans.

How 'bout a few RSVP's on the 2pm Kelly's rendezvous to set the ball rolling. Optional Friday campout at Alex or wherever for those from further away.
I will do a sticker vinyl badge for those who RSVP if there's enough interest.

Anybody got any ideas about putting a sign at the 12 Mile entrance? (zooter?)

I bet there will still be a lot of bikers heading to Glenorchy who are unaware the rally has been cancelled plus even some KBers won't know exactly where it is.

Flouro spray-bomb on a bit of plywood or similar would be enough.

Well, unfortunately it looks like our plans have changed... managed to catch up with the other riders that had said they were keen to join us on the ride to GY and now it looks like we're planning a ride down that way in a few weeks time so will regretfully have to pull out of a ride this weekend... can't really justify two long rides right now... actually that would make it three as the vincent rally is comming up soon too.
Anyway, good luck to all those that are going... have a great ride and be safe.
We look forward to hearing stories of all the fun you have down there.
Hopefully will meet a few of you in Akaroa this week, otherwise will meet you on another road on another day.

However 2 of the boys are still going to be down there and they want to do the run to Glenorchy, so they very well may rock up at your camp at the 12 mile delta.

Well, me and Mr and Mrs Scumdog showed up at Kelly's in the pissing rain and elected to call off the exercise. Tomorrow may be a different story as it seems to be clearing nicely now and the races will be on tomorrow touchwood if it is still fine and the track not too soggy.
To be fair to the others who indicated they would be here, we got the messsage from local associates that they had flagged it.

I did wonder, weather has been crap, but worste around Heriot, Raes junction, Lawrence areas.
Did see a group go thru here about 4.30/5pm friday, not anyone with you guys? Because they would have got a drenching (and not of the farm type)

A couple of my mates were going to the races .Cancelled that. I had to work, went up milford rd to a busted bus just thru the tunnel and it was pissin down. About 10 bikes went past ( slowly ) and I seen them headin back to Queenstown later in the day. I had a good trip up middle of Island to golden bay then down west coast over new year . Took the harley and rode like a nanna. 8 days of bliss, soaking in the hot pools. The Mussel Inn had great beer and mussel chowder. Enjoyed the Nelson Races, top marks to the guy on the Harley. Day after I got home had to get the CBR out and do the ton and a bit more. Any of you guys going for a ride to USA , Canada, Alaska, I planning on heading over there late may, back after Sturgis. Well, as it so happens Chrissy-Bimbo and I got to the rendezvous point at Frankton by 2pm, it HOSED down from Clyde to Frankton - real lead bullet type impact at times.
We caught up with other bikers there including a couple of Dangerous's mates who asked if I was a KBer and then said 'giday' on behalf of D.
C.B. and I were sitting down for our meal when a quite normal looking guy asked if 'scumdog is here?' and Zooter introduced himself. After waiting about 45mins or so and ending up the only ones left we dicided to close the meeting and do other htings.
C.B. and I headed back to Cromwell to her sons in-laws holiday home where we had a bit of an 'oops' when I almost overshot the street, put on front brake, went over white paint on ped. crossing and had the front wheel wash-out on us, luckily a bit of speedway footwork from both of us kept us from biting the ground and I also managed not to high-side when we regained grip.
Should have known better but a bit of tiredness and wet and complacency = cock-ups.
We dried out a bit and went out in the boat then had a 'few' drinks. Next day back in the boat, 350 chev powered ski-boat + biscuit towed at speed = fun! AND a body that felt like it had been run over by a bull-dozer the next day.
Monday was good but iffy back east so we packed up and cut a track home before the rain started again - hence we didn't drop in on the way past Jantar.
From what I know NOBODY from KB ended up at 12 Mile nor did any stay Sat night at Glenorchy.
