View Full Version : My first clutch wheelie

Did my first clutch wheelie on the way to work this morning. I was at an intersection next to a long line of cages whith me in a bus lane and the cages in a normal lane. After the end of the intersection the bus lane ends and merges with the normal lane so I felt I needed to get across first. Gave it some gas and let out the clutch and behold, the front wheel lifts a little. Of course the cage next to me had hardly even started moving by the time I had shot across the intersection. Yippee, I am so happy to be riding my bike.

shot bro shot!!! Might pay to get a new clutch kit on standby if you intend to keep doing them, i've seen some pretty good wheelies done by ZXR250's

Hahaha, love the tag that somebody put on this thread -- `squid'

I did my first `wheelie' in similar circumstances. Filtered to the front of the lights, sitting next to a large refrigeration truck. Completely deafening, couldn't hear my own engine. Gave it a handful, didn't hear what revs I dropped the clutch at (no tach) -- I was in a hurry, so I didn't do it very smoothly, and lo and behold, the poor little CB lifted the front wheel what felt like half a metre but was probably about 5cm.

I tried doing myself later on purpose, but the amount of abuse you need to give the poor thing is, IMHO, excessive. I've geared it up, first gear is very tall, and the front end is lowered. That's my excuse :D

I wheelied my GSX1400 away from the lights entirely unintentionally, once.

I had a 140kg pillion at the time.

I managed to get my Bandit up about a foot intentionally, only had to rev to about 10k popped the clutch not to hard and up she came quite easy, wish I had done it more now and fucked the clutch for those bastards that stole it.

I'm not going to say that it's impossible to do a full-blown wheelie on a zxr250... I haven't tried that hard.

But you sure as hell would have to abuse it quite significantly if you weigh in at ~90 kgs!

Probably have had the front wheel about 5 cms of the deck on one or two occassions... never intentional though.

You have an advantage (Seriously) stand on the pillion peg's. One foot on the rear brake. Im not a stunted at all however.

4 Stroke's are wayy too easier to do wheelies on (And hold em) because they are so predictable. I can get my RG to powerwheelie up to balance point (and im crap). Even when the powervalves werent working! :Pokey:

A little unfair, but have had the RS power wheeliing frequently. Only one clutch wheelie - as I'm damn scared the thing will rocket off too soon - got the wheel up at the lights riding home with a workmate with his '88 GSX1100

Haha used to own a Honda XR200 Trial bike. Was good fun doing little "pop" wheelies, as I called them. Never had the balls to do a full wheelie. Poor me.
