first a head's up; i'm not kiwi and have only been here about a year, so the weather still drives me insane.

i was thinking of making a trip up north on my 150cc scooter during my school holidays during the last 2 weeks of june.

is that a bad time to be on the road on a scooter? i was thinking of going up to auckland and i hope that it won't be too bad, despite the rain...

how are drivers like, as i head north? how many hours a day of riding is sensible and how long will it take?

(i'm skipping the south island because i was told the roads get wildly slippery when the weather gets cold)

all advice welcome... cheers and ride safe!

Rain/shine you can ride in anything with the right gear.

The trip is usually about 10 hours at a pretty sedate pace in a car with plenty of stops. I'm not letting the rain stop me from riding.

There's no such thing as bad weather. Just inappropriate clothing. :)

Bad weather is when it takes so long to put on and take off your appropriate clothing that it doubles the length of time your ride takes....

Well mate...there is a National Biker Event happening on June 28th and the weather will not stop it happening...unless Typhoon/Hurricane or such like cometh....;)

The Desert Road can often be covered in snow at that time of year, and traffic gets diverted via national park. Snow is OK as long as you are dressed for it, but ice can be nasty, so use your head, if its icy be cautious.
