View Full Version : Gobert banned from beach after “crime rampage”
Former World Superbike and MotoGP star Anthony Gobert has been banned from Surfers Paradise in Australia, following a “crime rampage” which included the robbery of a 70 year old man.
‘Wild Child’ Gobert - who has fallen from being a world class bike racer to applying to sandwich maker Subway for a job – has been charged with two counts of stealing; one of snatching two A$ 20 notes from a 70 year old man and the other of snatching a womans’ purse.
Gobert had to repeatedly be told by the judge to stop interrupting from the dock while cross-examination of witnesses was being held. Gobert told Judge Michael Hogan `I'm a professional motorcycle rider mate' but then said he was unemployed and had applied for a job at Subway.
Gobert was bailed on condition he surrender his passport, report five days a week to police and not enter central Surfers Paradise.

Like John Britten?
Very strong thing to say about a man who did so much! In fact, very unfair as well, WHEN WAS JOHN EVER ARTRESTED FOR SUCH MATTERS

Presumably by 'Chemical using scum' you mean he's a recreational drug user. If that makes him scum, then that makes John Britten the same sort of scum.
I'm not sure what the arrest has to do with anything or whether Britten was ever arrested for it? Either they're both 'Chemical using scum' or they're not? Or is it ok to be a recreational drug user if you're well off enough to afford it, but not if you have to steal to support the habit?
Or did you actually mean 'Thieving scum?'.
'Chemical using scum' would include a lot of people who've done a lot of things, not least of which is John Britten.

The late, great JB may have smoked dak and popped a bit of acid but did this affect his genius or demotivate him?Hell no!!!
No comparison with a man who had so much talent and was given multiple chances (Gobert) but squandered the lot.

Go back to building your forkless bike and stop alienating your customers (and potential customers).

one word springs to mind:
hypocrite
Right, this thread is going away from the (possibly) sad decline of a once superbly talented rider - and then on to what was an interesting point of view as to what constitutes a "sad loser" (if you keep your focus, then is/does that allow for the use of "mind expanding chemicals" as I believe the 13th Floor Elevators referred to them on their eponymous album) - to finger pointing and malice.
And that isn't something I want on the news forum.
If you want to debate the relative rights and wrongs of recreational drug use/what makes one man be able to handle it and stay creative while another man turns into a bag-stealing lowlife from here on, can I suggest it is taken to the Rant or Rave forum - which is specifically designed for this kind of debate.
If you do, do keep away from the finger pointing! Intelligent debate is great. Finger pointing and malice really doesn't do anyone any favours.
Thanks - and trust you understand my nipping this in the bud.
