Meanwhile, I barely caught up with anyone as I was manning the camera around the outsides of the track - got a chance to play with my buddy's 70-200mm F/2.8 L series lens.

That is the lens I really want to get, perfect for this type of situation from what I have read.

Tell me about it! The lens is SHARP, colours are vibrant and matey, the auto-focus is fast, silent and instantaneous (like Str8Jaket resisting my advances!)
