That's right.

The 2004 Suzuki GSXR1000K3 that The Stranger and I have been working on for the last 15 months was signed off as road legal and has been a awared it's registration and number plate at 1530hrs yesterday afternoon.
By the way did I mention

It has ended up costing more than we expected originally due to unforseen mechanical problems which were remedied over the course of the last year or so. Sourcing certain parts such as the dash, loom, fairings and headlights would have been costly were it not for the help of ebay and kiwibiker, this is not to say that it wasn't time consuming along with having to wait for parts to become available and then waiting for them to arrive.

I scored a few bargains over the last year that have enevitably kept the total build cost down - a big thanks to Patch for the gear he hooked me up with at VERY reasonable rates... good to have mates that can crash bikes and not wreck everything that everyone else does!

There is still a few things to tidy up, i'm waiting on a few fasteners and the like to tidy up the fairings, it's waiting for a new exhaust and will recieve a paint job at some stage but is otherwise fully road legal and rides very nicely - it has WP suspension up front and is due to recieve a resprung WP rear shock in due course.

The ex-Two Smoker conti raceAttack tyres are sticking really well and so far have not shown any signs of squirming or sliding under heavy acceleration - hmmm, should really try and keep that front wheel down
Talk to The Stranger/HDTboy/Two Smoker if you'd like to try some out!

I have to give a huge thanks to The Stranger who has helped me out endlessly over the course of the project and kept me motivated aka "get off your fat ass and get your bike on the road and out of my garage" as well as sourcing parts when I have been too busy (lazy?) to do it. Also for the use of his garage and ever expanding collection of very nice tools  - im sure his kids will be happy to have their dad back now that my 'girly legs' are no longer around at their place most nights of any given week.

Thanks also go out to Mystery, who often kept me fed and hydrated (making awesome coffee and/or bourbon + coke). She has been quite supportive and understanding when many would have been getting frustrated and generally just really annoyed.

To anyone else who has lent a hand at any stage, whether it be for advice, helping out with mechanical stuff, or pointing me in the direction of certain things that I've needed - thank you very much.

Needless to say my girlfriend is happy it is on the road, and that we no longer have to spend late nights travelling across Auckland to only do 'some' of the jobs that need doing.

I dont have any pictures available at the moment, but will post them up as soon as the become available.

Hope to see the usual suspects out on the road again, hopefully i wont be too slow, it's been over a year since i had my own bike to ride.

And yes Noel, it will be getting insured ASAP.

You've made an old bastard happy Gareth.
Happy that I have most of my garage back, but that's minor.
I'm happy that you can now ride your bike, that's great.
But most of all I am happy that I was right about you.

One of the marks of a man in my view is finishing what you start, even when it's all turning to custard.

It started as a simple job. Take a bike with a re-certified frame, all the main components ready to go and a rebuilt engine, source a few bits and bolt it back together - easy.
Well it was, we had it assembled in a week.
Alas, it was all down hill from there. Little did we know the crank had been re-welded and had snapped at the weld. This resulted in a complete rebuild and many new and/or replacement parts.
Believe me, that is a real over simplification of the job.

You stuck it out the whole way and although needed a bit of a prod a few times, never lost your head or your focus. You always looked for the angles, how we could make the project work economically without cutting corners on quality.

That is why I am both very happy and very proud of you sir.

Savagely fast bike :niceone:

The blood sweat & tears makes it all the more worthwhile, no doubt you will treasure it

Well done Gareth, I'm impressed.

Please bring it back, the garage looks empty without it and he's already talking about filling it with another bike! :nono:

As for keeping you fed and hydrated, it was a pleasure. We'll definitely miss those 'girly legs' around here.

Polish the steels with CRC and wet and dry paper.

Now where did that idea come from I wonder?
