Rim Damage

I recently got a flatty and took the tyre in to get repaired. Ever since the bike has been feeling like the wheel is out of balance or bent rim, well I just had it balanced and was told it is all good. While I was putting it back on this arvo I gave it a good spin and looked at either side at the rim, well fuck me if there is not a big 'flat spot' for want of a better term on the left side rim. Is it possible that the rim was damaged by the equipment used to hold it and remove the tyre. It would have been the left side that was used to secure it to the machine I'm guessing. I know it wasn't doing it prior to the fix for the flatty and I didn't hit anything. What do you reckon people.

Proof is what you'll need before you'll get any reaction of substance. They can be fixed though, and fixed well if you source an experienced professional.

They can be fixed though, and fixed well if you source an experienced professional. Can confirm that. I had a BMW65 with a badly bent rim and it was as near as perfect when straitened out. Sorry it was quite a few years ago now and I've forgotten who sorted it out.

I HEARD SMYTHE AND YATES ARE THE ONLY TRUSTWORTHY PEOPLE TO DO BIKE RIMS. CAR RIMS ARE NOT AS IMPORTANT AND ARE REPAIRED TO A DIFFERENT STANDARD. CAN SOMESONE CORRECT ME ON MY SMYTH AND YATES SPELLING I THINK THEIR IN CAMBRIDGE

Hmmmm,rim repair....
My advice is to leave it alone or replace it as no.1 choice.
As for repair,there are no real guidelines/rules for fixing them,all the law requires is;'it must be repaired by a tradesman in a workman-like manner',or something to that effect.
I'll fix it if you want(I repair car alloys,and without blowing my own trumpet am as good as anyone else out there)for a reasnoble price.I've repaired a couple of them in the past with no probs.If it makes you feel better it can be X-rayed for about $100......
And no,the tyre fitting gear will not damage your rims.

Maybe you got a flatty coz you hit something and damaged the rim?
Think McIver and Veitch in Dunedin repair damaged rims, had a CBR600 front wheel repaired and did a damn fine job!
