Want me to bring you a coffee mate?

Tags are the new toys, fun to play with for a little while, quickly will become boring

What, not even the steaming hot PM's between me and you :devil2:?

As for tags I still don't get what they are about, haven't had time, too busy worrying about my Bro'.

I was going to use tags to categorise threads with a common theme I was interested in that weren't neccessarily in the same forum. It gives them a common element that I can use. Southern rides is a good example. Every time I find out abourt a ride or a meeting down this end of the country I tag it Southern Rides so I can find 'em all quickly.......sorry.....isn't that the point of them?

Whats the point of Private Messages if the moderators can read them? They can't, only the admins that have access to the raw database could do this, and even then, only if they went out of there way to look at them.

vBulletin itself provides no built in web page facility for moderators to look at users PMs. I've seen the senior moderators controls, and no plug in to allow them to look at them has been installed either.

Whilst yes it is feasible that the administrators could read your PMs, I think you'll find their lives are far more interesting than that.

It’s a conspiracy don’t you know... your logical explanation just clears the air, and we all know that is not what is wanted... they want to bitch and moan, don’t take that away from them!

Heh, just the techinical aspect that interests me :) Yes, it is feasible that someone with server access could go to the trouble of finding a message in the database to read, but no, even the senior mods can't do it. I have to wonder why one someone would be arrogant enough to be paranoid about something like that though... I mean shit, they think their PMs are that interesting?

It is worth noting that even things that are encypted when they're stored in a database, are not really that secure from the database administrators. Do consider that when putting 'private' things into an IT system of any type.

if it's one way encryption (md5 for example), then your average dba isn't going to be able to decipher it

if it's not encrypted then anyone with a basic knowledge of sql and access to the db could find and read them

Is it paranoi? Arrogance? Stupidity? that makes them think their PM's are that interesting...

if it's not encrypted then anyone with a basic knowledge of sql and access to the db could find and read themThe site will still have to decipher them to display them to the user, to replicate that functionality is pretty trivial

Even when life as an Administrator is mind numbingly boring, it isn't that fucking boring.

Sorry to hear you upset by the Tag system Jim. Have you tried to send a Private Message to a moderator? Possibly they get so many messages when new features are added they can't read and reply to all of them.

Are you allowed to post up a reply so we can all know why tags get deleted or changed.

It would be worth complaining if you have a genuine concern that someone is removing valid tags. I'm guessing that tag usage is a user right option, and they can probably revoke access to problem users... if they know about them.

Who is the dedicated member devoted to tagging threads "arse biscuit"??
So far there are over 100 threads with the tag Arse Biscuit. Including this one.
It's fairly hilarious, but WHAT IF I NEEDED TO DO A REAL SEARCH FOR ARSE BISCUITS??? Hmm? Mr Joker, bet you didn't think of THAT!

As an aside, if you really do need to search for arse biscuits (wtf they may be) then maybe k-rd or the equivalent welly-wood tranny hang out may be the bet rather than kb.....?
