Hi all

Well hopefully the bike will be done in two weeks once the final parts arrive. I've started saving as in the three week inter-semester break I want to go on a road trip. Seeing as I love the worlds fastest indian movie, Invercargill will hopefully be the destination, to see the bike in real life. I'll be leaving 2 days to get to welli, jump the gap and then just ride south. Anyone who wants to join me can, otherwise I will solo it. I hope some of you will as ti will be a long road trip and a great time to better frienships already made and make new ones....and to pick up chicks from all over new zealand . Hope all is well with the rest of you guys and gals in the club..oh and rie I am sorry I only said hello at the opening of the elevator doors but I was on a mission, I shall endeavor to meet you in person and introduce myself properly.

Peace

I'm going to take andrews yzf250 if he's keen and find as many gravel tracks as possible before I leave. The going will be slow, this isn't going to be a race, in fact I might not even make it to invercargill, I'll see where I get. Just need to ride. Come with bro, then you can teach me to ride on it eh haha

Invercargill is very intrepid! Just have like 10 thermals. On our South islabnd trip (dec/jan) when the weather turned it was almost hypothermia weather, and that was with two thermal layers, fleece and jacket...
I would be keen to join you til wellington though, maybe come back up the west coast, haven't been near Taranaki before.

Might have to come down to Wellington as well. Trip back up on sh4 through national park would be pretty cool. Roads weren't the greatest when i did it in a car, but i reckon it would still be a fun ride.

Since you're doing a long trip you be better off having a chat with a few people on here (or at least do a thread search round the touring threads) on stacking up on essential stuff just in case you have the odd incident.

Yeah just becareful of the cold weather. Sth Island is colder hence ice every morning.

From Christchurch to Dunedin will be a boring ride tho lol Trust me, I lived in CHCH for 5 years ;)

Probably cannae make it for a variety of reasons - but I will be sure to have a yarn to the intrepid travellers before they leave. Being a Southern Man from Dunnos and all, I might know stuff that is useful? or not?

As already alluded to, I think Auckland-living people might be shocked at just how bitingly cold it can be (A good cold, mind you - with pretty ice and snow).

Layers, layers, and more layers and *really* good winter gloves are the order of the day I suggest.

*slams right fist into chest above heart in a burst of southern patriotic fervour*

(Sigh. Longing for a proper, crisp, DRY winter, not this damp, miserable Auckland muck)

Cool so I have started thinking about how epic this trip will be since I have timed it for winter *crap lol*, I have started ,making a list of stuff I need, now ross I need your advice as to which are the best roads but not too treacherous ones, I hear the coastal routes are straight so inland will prob be the best bet? Can't wait till the bike is done in two weeks, I'm farking losing it mate, I'm hallucinating that I have my rg150 back lol. Anyone want to pillion me on a ride this saturday?

I have that book...

NZ motorcycle atlas by Peter Mitchell. 'Tis good.Has route suggestions as well as maps. Happy to loan it to anyone desiring a look. Not that expensive either $20-30 if I remember correctly.

Author's website: http://www.mcycle.co.nz/books.htm

There is a review on KB somewhere too - can't be faffed searching right now.

It all depends on my finances and my motorcycle and the weather, I might do north island round trip, down one side up the other or I might hit the south island. Enough people have told me bout the ice for me to get a little cautious. lol

Just thought of something Dushy... You'd wanna plan your trip pretty intensly even in terms of petrol, 250s don't get all that far and you could run out in the middle of nowhere especially down south.

I was thinking face them backwards and when they go it'd be your only chance of breaking the speed limit Dushy. ;)

Seriously t hough, I am keen and I have the means. Just got to wait for the arm to finish healing and to find a bike.

Change of plans, inter semester break, it will now be a north island trip down to welli and back, aiming to take a few days to do it taking the scenic route. Plenty of stops and lots of socialising with the friendly people around the north island, then at the end of the year I will organise a south island trip, this will give people plenty of time to organise for it.
