I was heading from Palmy to.... south... on Saturday with a friend, just got to Waikanae when by bike backfired three times then died. Got off the road and wondered what the hell to do next....
Absolutely no juice getting from the battery to anything else.
Anyway, I go on to one set of friends in Palmy who suggested cures via txt. Very useful but obviously limited.
Also got on to CHANCEYY, who had said to txt her if I got stuck on a ride and she would contact friends near me or get a thread up here for help. She contacted BILL who was out within 20 minutes and got stuck in. He went and got some fuses and the bike started (despite the original fuse appearing whole)! We just hoped for the best and assumed we may need to keep replacing fuses and see how far we get...
He left and my friend and I went for a quick fill-up before heading home. Fuse blew at the petrol station. As did the next one....
Search and Rescue party started coming from Palmy to hopefully fix bike or at least take me home.
Roll up MALCOLM who went home for more fuses and offered a safe place to shelter the bike nearby if we couldn't get it going. Bike blowing fuses immediately so went for curry... Curry makes everything better ;)
Search and Rescue party arrived, GAVIN, Bike-Fixer Extraordinare (plus two others), got to work and eventually moved something so it stopped shorting!
Meanwhile MALCOLM returned to check we were ok! Bikers rock :)
Rode home in the dark and cold, was contemplating frostbite by the time I made it back to Palmy. Bike is fine now.
Huge thanks to all!!!!
I highly recommend taking the number of someone who usually has ready access to Kiwibiker to contact should you get stuck away from home!
