Just saw this video, hope it's not a repost.

I hope this isn't what they do to cows to get leather.

So why cant they just slit their throats.

The thing with the poison is stupid, that he is using some shitty cocktail to kill the animals tell me that his bussniss isnt big enough. If it were a bigger industry im sure someone would make a special poison that does a better job.

As for people killing seals. Yea their realy bad people arnt they, they should grow cows on their ice and kill those instead.

Unfortunately a lot of cows that go into our leather don't get treated much better. There's a documentary called earthlings (google video link) (http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-1282796533661048967&q=earthlings&ei=huwwSKHmFo_CqAPOk92jCQ) that looks at a myriad of inhumane practices involved in everything from food to fur, and even leather production. It was enough to turn me vegetarian for a week.

Nope - the leather for Motorcycle leathers comes from free range cows that have died of old age.

You can wear them without remorse.

Wait, they do this to animals and you want to do this to humans?
How does that make you better if you descend to the same level?

Not condoning the treatment of these animals but how far do you go? Beef, lamb, wool, fish... where do you draw the line? We farm animals for slaughter and berate others that do the same because their culture is different to ours. Go to a freezing works and see where your lovely little prepack sausages come from. As I said the treatment of those animals is disgusting but there are huge differences between their way of life (the people) and ours. If you are not taught any different and don't know any different how can you be berated for it?

So sad for those poor animals suffering like that.... absolutely terrible. Sadly we have done this since time began.

dont wear fur? fuck off
more like - don't condone acts of violence against animals.
Wearing or not wearing fur does not dictate acts of violence against animals.
PETA piss me off, they never address the issue - only point it out to gain attention.
If they were truly against it they would push for reform and there would be no culling like this.
FYI Where does fur come from in NZ? do some research before assuming that the fur comes from a brutally maimed cat in china.
Thats is like assuming all students are a dredge on society.
YES there is a fur trade in NZ......google it dumbass - before you go condoning peoples livelihood. No i don't work in it. But i figure they at least do more work than you.
No plants and animals were hurt in the making of this comment. Only the hopes and dreams of captain planet

what the point of posting this in a motorbike site is, escapes me. Most of the people here wear leather. A lot of leather. Fur is just leather with stuff sticking out of it.

Im with whoever said "dont be cruel to animals": I abhor cruelty to animals, I would much rather be cruel to people, who generally deserve eveything they get. But I do wear leather and I do eat meat. no, I wouldn't go out and kill and skin them myself and I do acknowledge there is some hypocrisy there. Having said that, I am a consumer living in a consumer society, so I pay other people to do that stuff for me.

So, uh, yeah.

I don't think the issue here is about leather versus fur, or whether to eat meat. It's purely about animal cruelty. Unfortunately (especially given our fabulous new free trade agreement) China doesn't have much effective legislation governing its production of anything - and the laws that exist are (in my view) selectively enforced by the Chinese government. There is little in the way of minimum wage legislation, less in the way of environmental legislation, and, it seems, even less in the way of animal welfare legislation.

As a result I always think twice about buying anything made in China - if it's made by a big, multi-national, I think there may be less chance of its production having harmed anyone/anything. Even then I would never buy fur. As for possum fur from NZ possums - I trust our animal welfare legislation to have ensured the possums are killed as humanely as possible - geez that felt like an oxymoron .....

What annoys me about videos like this is that they imply that all fur is harvested in these ways.

This is simply not true. Of course some animals will suffer terribly at the hands of numbskulls, but most animals are killed quickly and humanely.

I have no respect for PETA. They are out of step with reality.

Could only get half way. Poor Coyote's :(

No matter what culture you come from, you can't possibly think it's fine to leave a bone exposed on an animal

Here's (http://www.grandin.com/index.html) an interesting website from a researcher into humane slaughter.

Better, I think, to advocate and propagate scientifically humane animal handling methods than to try and turn everyone into vegans with PETA-style shock tactics.

cough cough BULLSHIT cough...... how did you come by this knowledge then? Work for the fur trade do ya? Most animals used for fur are NOT killed quickly and humanly. Sounds like you need to get in touch with reality before you post inaccurate rubbish like that.

My aunt is a buyer for a major UK based fashion retailer.

The UK is particularly concerned with animal welfare, and the farmers who supply her manufacturing partners with fur are all accredited and regularly inspected.

Luckily in NZ we have minimum standards for the treatment of stock from farming to slaughter. The treatment of slaughterhouse animals here in nz is better than in a lot off countries and there is still room for improvement. Some off the humane treatment stems from wanting to keep the meat tender. ie:The higher the stress levels (especially in pigs) the tougher the meat.

The minimum standards are low but in a lot off cases farmers do treat their stock better than the govt. standards but there are some idiots out there & also 2 animals in particular where their treatment is way behind the ball for even world standards. Pigs & chickens. pigeries & battery hens. Not all are farmed as intensive as the min standards but it is still acceptance as the norm by many.
