Always listen to your instincts! Feels wrong? Something probably is.
That and November the tenth.
My first car crash was on November 10th 2006 (t-boned by a garbage truck, i was sitting in the back, mum driving). Exactly one year to the day later, give or take an hour, I skillfully slid sideways through a red light into an intersection with my bike and had my first bin.
Since then I've vowed not to ride on that day!
Sucks when the day after your birthday is cursed.

I actually reckon bikers are alot more superstitious then you guys are givign yourselves credit for.
The sun god.
Motorcycle god.
Never talk about binning while on a ride.
Karma seems to be a big one too.
There's a few things..

I used to cross the tank if I felt I was getting a bit loose, and I'm not exactly a religious man or anything?
James Deuce
20th May 2008, 17:50
I try not to ride with groups of motorcyclists and I'll use driveways and front lawns to avoid intersections. I'm not superstitious at all.

20th May 2008, 17:59
I'm superstitious about the centre line. If I cross it I i have a habit of worshiping the great God Coitus..........OOhhhhhhhhhhh Fuuuuuucckk. Usully plenty of thanks safely back on the right side.:spanking::spanking:

Exactly that plus ,if anything takes too long to find, mp3 , bike keys , wallet, I just don't go. Stupid I know but if I'm being majorly delayed in setting out, I reckon the ride wasn't meant to be, just some little alarm ringing.

Mental preparation prior to group rides:
"They're all soft cocks, nobody will pass me. I am a motorcycling legend. They're all soft cocks, nobody will pass me. I am a motorcycling legend. They're all soft cocks, nobody will pass me. I am a motorcycling legend."

With betty my old rg150, I always used to talk to her after a good ride. Kind of like a ride report, reassuring myself and her what we could have done better and what went great. I also learnt not to sit on toher bikes in front of her or talk aobut other bikes within earshot of her, if I did the next two weeks I would feel her wrath of not starting and running like poo. Two strokes eh. I also learnt to thank the biker gods before and after a ride.

i have a pair of "good ride" socks and a pair of "bad ride" socks.
for the record i have lots of other socks but if for some reason i put on the wrong pair, my ride is rooted from the beginning

Avoid people who drive Volvo cars, avoid over cautious Drivers, treat every other motorist as an idiot at all times, always carry tools on bike.
Slay Virgins for the great pagan road god, on my special sacrificial alter, with my very own virgin Sacrificing Weapon, or any old tart will do these days Im not fussy, and the pagan road God just likes to watch.

Avoid people who drive Volvo cars,
RAV4's. Scary shit.
yes i always get on the baby left hand side.
I always get on from the left coz there's a bloody hot exhaust on the right hand side + side stand.. Coincidentally the other day, my mate got on my bike (from the right hand side) and burnt himself, proving my point.
My question is, why are you only supposed to get on a horse from the left hand side?

Left glove has to go on first and pillions have to follow the rule 2. If they put the right glove on first I make them take it off and put the left one on

If I fall off before I've left the driveway I take that as a bad omen.
And for fuckssakes nobody had better tell say "ride safe", "take care", or "be careful" as I'm leaving. That's as bad as the Lotto chick saying "good luck" as she gives me my next losing ticket.

+1 if it does not 'feel' right it can turn out to be a 'bad' ride - listening to that inner voice - I do the same thing.
My question is, why are you only supposed to get on a horse from the left hand side?
I have no idea, but for some reason I always mount my bike from the left. Even walking all away around the other side to do so.
Odd. Would love to find out why.

i dress in my kit and helmet then dance around a fire while alex (spuds1234) similarly dressed lowers a virgin engine part into the fire, then sprinkles the magic herbs and mutters the prayer with a flash the engine part is gone.
we do this on a monthly basis, under the full moon, PM me for details on how you can join in the ritual sacrifice.

Has anyone mentioned biker bells?
You put one on your bike for good luck - they are to scare off any demons or souls that tamper with your bike and keep accidents from happening on the road.
Google them. It's quite common!

Always put my gear on in the same sequence. Ear plugs (left then right), helmet, then gloves (right then left).
I'm not sure if it's because I'm retentive, or just to make sure I have all my gear sorted before I ride. :zzzz:

In all fairness to super hero's, adding the Wonderwoman deflector wrist bands at times completes the respect I have for those two....

Magno Man !!!... Dont leave home without it
The Kids were collecting these and as they became "too used" they were donated to Dad. Twas quite cool as they have magnets so were able to be stuck to the bike etc etc. As time has gone on they have migrated to Pockets and I dont lave home without one of these being moved to a pcoket of whatever pants Im wearing.

I also try not to ride without the obligatory "goodbye, luv ya" to the Wife and Kids even waking them up (at all hours if needs be) so I know they heard me. Occasionally it happens that I dont and I never feel entirely comftable.
My pyjamas.
so you're the bastard who stole mine

I count my pieces of gear (boots, trousers, jackets, gloves, helmet) to make sure I have everything. Not much by superstition, though.
And for fuckssakes nobody had better tell say "ride safe", "take care", or "be careful" as I'm leaving. That's as bad as the Lotto chick saying "good luck" as she gives me my next losing ticket.
Hope you don't bin as often as you buy a losing ticket...
Has anyone mentioned biker bells?
I used to have one, mostly because the sound of the bell while riding amused me. Someone stole it. Oh, well.

Have at least 6hrs sleep the night before and make sure I'm not running late!
Bad shit always happens if I'm running late, forget phone, forget house keys, forget to check for cops or to look out for cars, etc etc :bash:
