Does anyone please have any info/recommendations for trails/gravel roads etc in and around the Mangaweka area? Would love to hear from you, as I'm going up there for a weekend in a couple of weeks' time.
Thanks a lot. :niceone:

I don't even know where mangaweka is, so your really in the shit if you take my advice!

I usually use the AA maps as they show all road conditions, gravel seal etc as well as road names and are now starting to show 4 wheel drive tracks as well.
Failing that, just keep turning left and you'll end up somewhere interesting...

So what tyres are you using on the 916?

I knew someone might think that! I ain't taking the 916, but it does have Michelin Pilot Sports on it. I've also got a Honda XR650R for this sort of trip!

theres lots of roads in that area that link up together, head towards Apiti coming from Managaweka turn off just north of Rangawhia its a mix of gravel and sealed roads and have even taken the daytona thru there

from apiti head out Makora road and to either utawai or umutoi or take the Pohangia west road or ridge road both be suitable for the ride

cheak it all out on the map etc tho

Had a superb weekend away. Ruahine Rd (out of Mangaweka) and all the side roads around Rangiwahia. Also Taihape-Napier road and also the side roads east of that which take you through Pungatawa and Pukeokahu. Came right back down the Turakina Valley Rd from Tangiwai. Cheers, Ed.

As dogs mentioned Pahongina valley east, turn left at the Pahongina township towards Apiti and through to Mangaweka would be right up your ally. Beutifull country roads. Need to be carefull if it's been raining a few weeks though. A few kms before Marton Block there is steep down hill section that loops around over a bridge. Pot holes so big that they almost swallowed the CX on one trip.

It's nice getting out in the back blocks isn't it?
