I am in the market for a brand new 08' something to ride.
The short list is very short, only two have made it.
This has come about because as of now the Triumph is totally mine, yes I payed out the last $8k today. Nedyumph belongs to me now...Bitch!

You have way too much money, and not enough common sense..I suggest you forgo the new bike, give me all your money (I promise I'll look after it ) and in return I will give you the Mighty Spada until "The Cheesecake King" returns in 2009...
Now you have to admit, that is a pretty awesome deal:Punk:

I dont have way to much money any more....:crybaby:
But what ever I can get for the Sprint will help with the pending deal.
May take a few weeks, I feel a tad light headed at the mo'...
But happy as fuck at the same time.
Trade in or TradeMe?... get more privately....bike shops offer squat as trade ins.

I bet you do and no doubt it is, which ever i go for must be sweet as a two up bike, cos at times it will be used as such...the Z1000 looses a bit where thats concerned

For $14k you could buy a brand new Hornet 900 ($11) and take a trip to Robert Taylor with the $3k change. There may even be $ spare to import a pipe from the USA (too expensive here).

My 10c worth is:

FJ - at that price its just to much for a old bike, should be 11 -12.
KZ - great reviews, but I'm not so big on origami styling and the mufflers suck.
Fazer - spunky in the naked model, great detail (check out the bar clamps). Ride one as some reviews complain about a weak bottom end

I'd be nagging Triumph dealers about a discounted Speed Triple as well.

Veeeeeerrry nice. A bit lighter than the GSX1400, also with a bit less grunt, but very nicely put together, very comfy... ride one and see. The stock twin rear Ohlins are a nice touch.

Now that is a good buy :woohoo:

Very clean look pipe mod too, presumably saving a small fortunate on cans. And to me cans do not suit that retro style (Neptune has started producing a nice looking cone muffler).

If you are a large or tall person and as you say doing 2-up riding a FJ that new and that price would be ideal (I know I just contradicted my earlier post but that was purely price related to a new FJ). Speed triples are not designed for 2-up.

Also if the FJ appeals to you there are a few shops doing prices on the Honda CB1300 and keep an eye out for the GSX1400 Suzuki. See below re dealers prices.

They are ALL good bikes...99% of bikes are these days.
At work I simply ask people their riding intentions for the next 2 years and take it from there.
Personally I find naked bikes more fun as you're in the elements and get the whole riding experience.
You've been spoilt for comfort and handling in recent times Mark so I would recommend heading towards up grading the suspension on any bike that you buy...at some stage, maybe after the first 12,000kms or so.

IMO I believe the FZ1 would suit best from what I believe you're after as they're such a great platform to build on. I believe they are much better in the twisties(compared to the naked s you've posted up) and have PLENTY of grunt to both enjoy yourself and carry luggage etc

Neither of them will feel like a nice bike to ride until you do the suspension. The Zed especially.

Sure the suspension on the Fazer could do with some work now that it has 20,000 on it, but the reason the GSXR went and I kept the Fazer was that the Fazer with stock suspension handled better then the GSXR with Ohlins rear and tweaked front.
Ok, the GSXR suspension was 30,000km old, and the Fazer new.
I'm pretty sure Mark will find it quite reasonable.

Cheap and easy mods.
Gut the cat from the collector. 10 minute job. Helps the mid range.
The air box in these things are a joke and have a tiny little filter. Whilst you are fitting the stacks cut the bottom right off the front of the air box and either descreen the original filter or replace it with a K&N, DNA or similar.
No sweat to get more HP from these than a stock R1 and cheaply too, but you NEED to let it breath.

Not quite so cheap and easy, but well worth it.
An FCE and smaller secondary flies from Ivan.

A little dearer.
PC3.
There are many maps available that are quite reliable, if you know where to look.
If you are real rich get the Ignition Module too and have it mapped.

Even more expensive.
Full Yoshi system.

I am running the Factory Pro stacks.
Excellent! little better on the low-mid. Hard to say in the mid range (would you really noticean HP or 2 at 8k?), but there is a second wind at about 9,000rpm.

At which point do you think a PC3 is required, i'm told that it's fine at the moment but if I was do the airbox and filter mods as you suggest do you reckon it might upset the mixture to the point where the computer can't compensate?
I like the idea but I don't want to screw the bike by making it run too lean or whatever.
I'll be getting a FCE as soon as I can afford it, can get it through Waikato Yamaha which reduces the hassle of getting the bit from overseas.
I understand that with the FCE the secondaries are opened sooner too.

I don't believe you have any worries there.
Why?
Well several in the states are running the air box mods and filter sans PC3.

Also we fitted the PC3 to my bike as the first mod and put it on the dyno. Got 5hp out of it then added the Yoshi TRC and back on the dyno, got another 5.
The first time we had it on the dyno, we added a lot of fuel at around 4 - 4,500 RPM and took a lot out below 4,000rpm (even with the o2 sensor disconnected).
From then on I have only subtracted fuel from this first map.
Point is, it is lean from the factory around 4k, however, we have never run more fuel than when it was completely stock, even with the airbox and filter mod, gutted cat etc.
Confused?

The Triumph goes this weekend so by this time next week I should be stroking my NEW bike. Went and told the local Warkworth Honda man today that ''I will have that one thanks''...with a Ventura Pack Rack and six months rego....please.
At no extra cost, that will be done. Cant ask for better that.....:first:
The only Kms it will have on it is from taking it to the testing station (across the road) ... its a mighty fine looking bit of Honda if I do say so myself.....:niceone:
This pic doesn't really do it justice but heres a sample....http://www.honda-motorcycles.co.nz/bikedetails.asp?BikeTypeID=4&ModelID=64&type=

Not in the flesh Steve, to be honest, when I saw the Honda I felt there was no need to go any further, or confuse the issue. A few years ago we went to look at a Holden and a Ford. Saw the holden first and new that would do us just fine...no need to look at the Ford. I am happy with my choice...

The short list is very short, only two have made it.
This has come about because as of now the Triumph is totally mine, yes I payed out the last $8k today. Nedyumph belongs to me now...Bitch!
To the short list...

2....08' Z1000 (black) http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=153389465

The Z1000 was eliminated early on Tammy, If it were just for me then it would have been a serious contender.

No coz I need to save for some new rubber for the FZ1
But here ya go, these specs taken from www.bikez.com
.................................................. ...........................
Suzuki GSX1400:
74 Horsepower.
126Nm Torque.
229kg dry weight.
0.3231 Hp/Kg.
.................................................. ............................
Honda CB1300:
113 Horsepower.
117Nm Torque.
234kg dry weight.
0.4871 Hp/Kg.
.................................................. ............................
If I had a few bucks to spare then yes I would put money on the Honda based on those figures.

Suzuki GSX1400:
74 Horsepower.

Ah. I did think you couldn't possibly have ridden both bikes to be stating such an opinion. I don't know where that website gets its data, but it's complete bollocks.

Those figures for the Suzuki are glaringly inaccurate; stock standard GSX1400s reliably measure on a dyno at 98hp and 120Nm at the rear wheel (see the reams of data posted on www.gsx1400.org).

Not to mention that the 15kph+ top speed increase on my bike after nothing but a change of exhaust indicates a fairly significant horsepower liberation!

So given that http://www.hondacb1300.net/cb1300specs.htm lists the current CB1300 model's power output as 100hp, which, being an official factory spec, is probably an 'at the crank' number, I'd be pretty happy putting my Suzuki up against one on a drag strip.

Interesting to see there is a discrepancies on both bikes specifications from what you can find on the internet. It really depends on which website you research and who you are prepared to believe does'nt it?
I still think given the two bikes in stock form and all things being equal you'd be in for a good fight on a dragstrip.
No I have'nt ridden either of those bikes but of the two i'd the Honda would start out as my preferred bike, but in reality i'd look at an XJR1300 first, always had a soft spot for those and then the ZXR1200 after that.
