View Full Version : So, what is your excuse?

...for spending hours upon hours on KiwiBiker during work hours.
I've caught myself wondering, how so many people can be so active on a forum which for 99.99% of the population must be considered work-unrelated.
So, what is it?
My own excuse: Being a PhD student means my work is very flexible - it's my project, I set the deadlines, etc. Furthermore, I am at an engineering department so there's computers just about everywhere. Also, working with research there's a lot of 'Change a parameter, run the process again (wait 2 hours)' and 'Run a simulation (wait 10 minutes), change a parameter, run the simulation again (wait another 10 minutes)'... that and the fact that I have an addiction to procrastination (or pissing the time away as it might be).

I quite often have no work to do and to fill in this time I do some web surfing.
Of course being a network admin has some advantages

I only come on here as a break between doing more important things at work. its a break that allows me to freshen up mentally to tackle the next task.
Plus I'm addicted and its better than spending all day on a dating service

Yeah, me too.
But you know you could be doing something else productive during that time, don't you?

It is to get a life during a work environment, at the expense of theft of time and bandwidth.

When I feel like a break or a bit of a laugh, or serious information about biking  I log on, but usually try to do this during my break or lunch time .

Summat like that...
I started spending lotsa time online in my last job, because I had virtually nothing to do, and if I hadn't spent all day browsing the Interdweeb, I would've gone mad. Er.
Unfortunately, it's become a habit, so I still spend time on here when I should be doing other shit. It'll probably stop from next week - we move into a new orofice this afternoon, and it may be harder to waste time on here.
I typically spend no time on KB outside of work hours.

My boss isn't such a hard arse that he won't let us surf during lunch. At other times I've no excuse.

I don't do paid work, which helps with the KB twitch. But (she) watches me all the time man.
I put the radio on in whichever room I'm renovating this week and sneak off to the computer room.Or I run an extension the length of the house with the vacuum plugged in and turn it on and off from the computer room. But she still knows somehow," YOU ON THAT BLOODY COMPUTER AGAIN!" I'm quite scared of her actually....
I managed to break myself in this morning...
Really?... your talent is wasted you know that aye Col?

To remind me why I am at work! And it is a useful distraction when I have people wanting to do surveys on the phone - how often do I get "Are you the person who makes the telecommunications decisions for your business sir"

Is the "she" you're referring to in this case the skinhead bride or the queen of darkness?

You're pretty lucky there then, the Queen of Darkness is also known under the name of 'The Seductress' so good on ya :niceone:
