Changing speedo

Hi there

Im new to the forum.
I was looking at possibly bringing in a bike from the US.
What would be invloved in changing the speedo from MPH to KMPH.
Say if it was a kawasaki ZX-10, what would be needed?

alot of latter model bikes with digital speedos have a combination of buttons to hit and they change. in any case, it doesnt take long to get used to it being in miles.

Yeah.. miles is dead easy. My Rebel was in miles and I didn't have issues.

Just research what 50kp/h is in miles and what 100kp/h and you won't have any issues.

And if it's an analogue speedo, it usually has kmp/h in small on the inside of the speedo.

E. mail bike wreckers with ZX10 parts advertised and ASK.$40-50 gets one COMPLETE. Then swap. I dont know why you would want to bother. Spend the money on GAS. (or speeding fines)
What year ZX10 ???
30 mph is 50 k/ph.
60 mph is 100 k/ph.
OVER 80 mph and you're WALKING ... and on a ZX10, thats EASY !!!

One other quick question. Would there be any compliance issues with the bike being in MPH when it comes into nz to get registered?

100mph = rougly 160kmph lol

Wouldn't know about compliance but there are quite a few bikes on trademe with MPH only.

So I suppose would be only some sort of "newly registered" problem if there was one.

It is not an issue at all. I brought my Bandit in from the US. Frankly, you can get great used bikes in the States for dirt cheap compared to here with a much better selection. Even with the shipping, duty and the Certificate Of Fitness, you can save a lot of money. Bikes here are generally much more expensive. Getting a new speedometer will only raise eyebrows when you go to sell it.

Biggest problem will be to comply with the number of miles travelled per hour...:bleh:
Keep your Foreign licence and sit a new one....that way you 're not stuck if you lose one for traveling a few to many miles per hour....:Police::scooter:
