How do you get rid of your old helmet?
The last one I disposed of by putting a pick thru it a couple of times and I cut the straps off as well. I chucked it on the inorganic collection pile. It lasted about an hour before someone grabbed it.
So how do/did you get rid of yours?

Err, if they've never been crashed in and they're not too old I usally just keep 'em for pillions or give them away to someone else. (I buy new helmets quite regularly.. god knows why)
But if I were to dispose of it, i'd have some fun. Fire and petrol is always fun. Throwing it off a tall bulding.. turning it into a portable beer holder.
Many, many things you can do.

We should write a book - 101 uses for a dead helmet.
We've got 6 helmets in the house now. Only 2 in use though.

Took my last one out to the range and shot it. Put the old girl out of her misery.... NA actually just wanted to see what would happen to it when one gets hit with a bullet. Impressive!!

Fill it with fertilizer (Ammonium nitrate) and add a cup of diesiel and a detenator
I just took my old Corsair out to the shed and gave it the axe test!
It took 4 decent blows to the top of the helmet before the shell gave way. Even then the axe couldn't penetrate the aramid mesh. Unfortunately, it was no match for the hacksaw.

take the insides out and use it as a planter for the sons school project and then throw it out once the plant eventually dies.

Ride to a soccer trip tournament.
While you are not there, some pissed team mates put your wifes helmet on and use it for kicking and door slamming practice.
Donate helmet to the team (after they pay for a new one)

The only skidlid I have is the one that I was wearing when I had the bin that ended me riding again. IMO someone would be a farkturd for giving their lady their old lid. Don't be such a cheap skate and get her a new one that fits when your getting yours.

Have only ever got rid of one helmet - on the second one and expect it to last a while. I have been told you should replace them every few years but I don't see why they shouldn't last for ages.

1. Paint it black to cover the dents. (Fill really bad cracks with RTV first).
2. Use glue to make the lining stay in.
3. Put it on TradeMe described as "Immaculate, almost never used"
4. Spend money at pub.

i also sell well oiled brake pads to the same people on trademe

i can so picture that happening.
The alternative: invite friends with toddlers around who think it's all cute that their little poo-machine picks up helmet and drops on concrete.

You could always consider donating it to St Johns for training purposes. Last thing you need in a spill is some untrained doofus straining to get your lid off.
