I was in the local Honda shop here the other day and spied a photo of the new CB1000R. They had a little bit of info on the bike. Price around $19k but that was all they knew.

I did some work on the web and came up with a little more info. Dry wieght around 213kgs, running last years Fireblade motor.

It appears the bike has been released in Europe but the local shop couldn't say when it was to be released here.

Can anyone out there fill in the blanks for me. I would love to get a look at one of these in the flesh. Tasty looking bit of kit.

been looking at these lately on the net.
wicked looking bikes, wouldn't of thought they'd be that heavy.
can't find any power specs on the motor.

did they say the price was gonna be 19k?.
that seems abit to steep to be compeditive with the rest.
eg your z1000

I was hoping it'd be cheaper since it was replacing the Hornet and was considering it as a future bike. But I won't be able to at that price :(

i was hoping the same.
i've read they are close to the same price as the hornet in the uk.

Why wouldnt you go buy a runout Hornet for $11k, an Ohlins fork rebuild and shock, ($2k) a power commander and pipe and some dyno time ((2500 say) and have four grand to go touring or spend on hookers and Jack Daniels? You might even be able to afford that news girl whore on alt tv!

Considering the guys I was talking to couldn't offer much info on the bike I wouldn't put much stock in the price been accurate.

yea as a long time Honda supporter. I think its the wrong direction if anyone from Blue wing honda is reading this.

19k is too expensive as a replacement for the Hornet. It may look better. But its heavier / has less touring capability than the existing 900 Hornet. And is it really that much better?

You should retain the 900Hornet if they still make it. 19k vs 11k price point just doesn't work.

I rang the local shop too (obviously a different one to the OP), and they also reported 19k. Available around oct/nov apparently.

Looks interesting, but too pricey and too fat for my liking..

It has a very good write up in one of the English mags. The general tenor of the article is that it wipes the floor with the competitors (including the Speed Triple) but in typical Honda fashion, it does it smoothly and competently, without having that "exciting" raw edge of some of the others.

I think it could well become a replacement for my 'bird if I ever sell it.

Love the new style of pipe, the single sided swing-arm, and the 'organic' wheels.

Looks great!

130 hp but at 213 kg it is 20 odd kg HEAVIER than my Hornet 919. I guess style has a price.

I suspect it looks a lot more fluid in the flesh. Designed to take on the Speed Triple. The only issue I have here is that a lot of the appeal of the Triumph is that it still retains a bit of a raw stuff-you edge, sounds like the Honda misses this bit. They should have built in a wheelie inducing hp spike or a dirty big engine growl at 6k.

At $19 it is way out of my league. I guess the 11K 919 I own will be around my garage for quite a few years:clap:

I like it ! :niceone:
Good to see they are finally putting higher spec equipment on the hornets ,although im not sure whether its meant to be the predecessor to the 919 or whether its completely separate as the price hike kind of defeats the whole package of buying a hornet (alot of bike for little money) and its pretty much a complete revamp and looks nothing like the hornets currently out.

so i cant see them having as much of a following being $19k

Here's hoping

I'm sure that pipe has at least 30kg's of Euro3 compliant crap innit to get rid of. Kinda like the look of it but I'd probably swap for some form of carbon fibre, fire-breathing, backfiring shorty can.

For that money, I'd just buy another 900 Hornet! :innocent: Whats better than one Big Ol'Hornet? Two!

But knowing me, collecting Hornets as I do, I'd just get one to keep completing the collection!

Why can they just update the current 900, make it either the 929/954 motor and slap on that single sided swing arm? Surely that wouldn't increase the price by much.

In NZ the current Hornet is under priced - this is a bike that was released in NZ in 2003 at $15 grand. Thankfully the Suzuki Honda sales war in NZ has sharpened pricing considerably (plus favorable exchange rates). They are about 13 in Aussie (13 Aussie as well).

As for the update - basically the existing model has been around for Honda since its overseas intro in 2002. I read Honda has designated the CB1000 as a R model and dropped the Hornet name to introduce it as a all new sportier 'naked' model.

A totally new fresh model. Incidentally it was styled by a Italian company for Honda such is their hope for sales success in Europe (USA is not getting it yet).

Now I wonder if that front fork will bolt up onto my Hornet.....:niceone:

CB1000F is the hornet replacement, around 17K I believe, The cb1000R will be for naked sport riders who want performance and reliability, people will mistake bland for competent.
As an aside I have just spent the day on an '08 1000 blade....2 up, surprisingly competent, able to do good apex speeds and lean angles, the mrs even commented that it was more comfortable than it looked, she prefered it to a CB1300???? and how sure footed it felt from a pillion perspective....deceptive these 'ondas

I'll say - I'm currently looking at a 2006 CB900 at Motomart for 8k. They seem really good value for money.

I love it ... but as everyone has already mentioned at 19k .. I think the current hornet could be shown some ohlins love and perform just as well

Oh for a lotto win.....

This is one of the few bikes that does it at an emotional level for me, i.e. one I'd actually like to own rather than just admiring!:love:

I like the look of it in all of the press kit but I gota admit it doesnt really do anything for me in the pics that Hass posted.. Maybe its just the colour or angle of shots?? Il have to see it in the flesh to decide I think...

Hey have you seen the Blackbird in the latest Rapid mag? CBR1000 forks and swingarm, VFR800 rear subframe and a stealth turbo install (no outward sign at all-no guages or anything..) I can email the pics if ya want as I just scanned them...

Ha! A mate sent me the mag a couple of weeks back, but thanks so much for the kind thought. I did investigate an intercooled Mr Turbo kit from Terry Kizer in the US a couple of years ago. US$5000 but a: I'd never get permission from Management; b: I've already got more horses than I can manage:eek5:

Is that, like, $10,000 for the bike, and then the first year repair costs figured in?

$19,000 buys you:
A new GSXR1000.
A GSXR750 and leathers, and a deposit on a lobotomy.
A new Fireblade (one dealer is showing the FB at $1800) plus tickets to Rarotonga, which you'll need after the reality of owning such an ugly bike kicks in
A weekend in Vegas (las, not roto) with hookers, and all the Viagra you'll ever need.
A CBX thou.
Fake implants for the mistress.
A new kitchen for the missus.
A deposit on an apartment in Auckland.
Sophie Lewis for a night of rooting - but she was freely available to the rugby player, so you'd still have $19,000...

I'd be completely torn - the choice between a CB1000 and any of the others on the list?

Just kidding, there's little decision - I'd take the Gixer thou or 750. :)

$19,000 buys you:

This.

<img src="http://www.motorcyclenews.com/upload/210543/images/300x200/02EPT_6-01.jpg"/>

Which I'd much rather have than anything mentioned to date on this thread, including Honda's shiny new over-designed, over-powered commuter bike from some 1950 sf artist's bad dream.

Japanese designers need to stop either copying the Brutale or making bikes shaped basically like a Brutale but with bits sticking off at different angles, and actually start thinking about what looks nice.

Mmm. Nice. More pictures please.

I've said this myself a few hundred times - bike designers need to shrug off the bullshit design groups that build unoffensive copies of other unoffensive designs that are passed by committees and marketing boffins - and they need to start building bikes. I like the KTM RC8 because their R&D department is 50 times larger than their marketing department. I like the Confederate Wraith because it is what it is. Name one truly outstanding bike in the last 5 years that is innovative (aside from the KTM and the Confederate).

The weekend in vegas with drugs and hookers is looking good. I ride Gixers because they're an evolution, and they're reliable, fast, well sorted. They're the sensible wife who can cook and who likes good sex. A confederate is more like a borderline bunny boiler, who is incredibly hot and fucks likes she's possessed. :eek5: What a sexist analogy. :bash:

Throw in packing your nose full of the finest blow, smoking the finest weed, drinking the finest booze as well. All while a few hot hookers are polishing your knob. If you're gonna do it, do it right, life's short ;)
