Anyone had problems with flicking from on to reserve. Was running late for work today so didn't fill up,the guage said just on red of dial, ran ok till running out, flicked to reserve and encountered a bike which spluttered and surged, still did 100km and at normal revs, then slowly lost power.Started again but was running rough again, could this be due to old fuel?
Have been mindfull of not running onto reserve, but new fuel was put in last week,so was thinking maybe could be picking up crap in tank.
GSX750,cheers guys.

Sounds like either water in the bottom of the tank or crap inthe bottom of the tank, it wont be old fuel as that would be mixed out every time you refuel.

Yep so I thought, might be crap as bike had been stored for a while prior to the guy I bought it from got it on the road.Goes well when not on reserve,so might just run it out of fuel lol.
Bike is in garage at night, but haven't always filled her up,maybe half tank, therefor maybe condensation and low fuel in tank compounding the issue.

The pickup for the rererve could be partially blocked

in the very bottom of the tank, the normal intake for the tap is about 11/2 inches above the bottom of the tank, whereas the intake for reserve is right at the bottom of the tank, where any and all crap ends up. Take your tank off, remove your fuel tap, clean the filter gauze that is in the top of the tap and flush your tank, this SHOULD solve the problem.
You may also have to remove the carbs and give them a clean as you will now have crap in the bowls now. You may get away with opening up the drain screws on the bottom of the carbs and turning you tap to prime, the flow of fuel thru the carbs MAY be enough to get the crap out as long as it is still sitting in the bottom of the bowls, but if it has got up into the jets then its a carbs out job. On a GSX allow a good amount of time to get the carbs off and back in again, they are a right bitch to do, lots of swearing involved.

Hopefully the crap has worked it's way out, fired it up yesterday and started first kick no spluttering, only reved it a bit once warmed up but no miss at 3500 rpm,was going to take tank off and check the filter gauze, and empty.

I can't be bothered with all this reserve stuff. It's so 20th century! I just leave it on reserve all the time and rely on the fuel gauge & odometer. This does mean any rubbish in the tank will go straight through to the carbs, but at least it won't accumulate in the bottom of the tank and all go through at once when I switch.

My thoughts as well, well was when I had an XR200 always on reserve ,never thought about leaving it on reserve all the time, might just do that for a while lol.

Yup. run her nearly dry. Buy a 5.0l of gas ready to tip in and rip the fuel tap off. Blow out the fuel filter on the reserve side and drain the carbs.
run the bike on reserve about once every 4 tank fulls to stop the water n stuff building up
