From The NY Times (http://www.nytimes.com/2008/05/24/business/24gas.html?em&ex=1211774400&en=3a5909b96e0add0e&ei=5087%0A):

"Cory Asmus of Temecula, Calif., just bought a $4,800 motorcycle for his 20-mile drive to work so he could cut his gas bill to $8 a week, from $110."

Bikes=good, cars=evil. Knew they'd work it out in the end... :2thumbsup

A modern 250 twin is definately the way to go if you want to save on fuel costs. I had a VTR250 which I used for commuting and weekend blats. With a maximum speed of around 155kph it was never going to keep up with the big boys toys but for a 26km commute through Auckland it reigned supreme. 13 Litres would get me over 300kms of mixed riding (urban/motorway and rural).

Yup. My Hyo used to get 500+km to a tank on the open road. I never used to bother thinking about fuel before the trip meter got over 400km.

Dont they pay by the gallon?I think you missed the point-90 something % fuel saving in the cost of commuting using the m/c.

yep a us gallon is slightly smaller than one of ours, i think its 3.8 ltrs so in our money a us gallon would be over $7.00

After picking up my 250 Virago yesterday we filled it up and found it uses about 3.5lts to 100km.
So a week commuting to work on the bike instead of the car would cost about $20 as opposed to $50 in the car.
Doesnt take a rocket sciencist to work that one out.
*retires the car and runs off to get licence* :scooter:

It would be interesting to know what the guy was driving before he got the bike. Those figures need some perspective.

Precisely my point. $110 per week is a lot of gas when it don't cost much.

1 US gallon = 3.78L

Average US price per gallon is $3.83 (according to AAA on the 23/5)

So thats 3.83/3.78 = $1.01 per L

$1.01us = $1.28nz (xe.com) Not bad.

yep i did say aprox , allowing for variation in price .
but we pay $2 per litre
cost aprox 4 cents per litre to ship fuel or oil if you like to a port in the world
