.. so I went out for a quick spin this morning and as I was riding started thinking that the bike doesn't feel that quick.. I'd had a fiddle with the ex-up this morning just to make sure there was nothing slowing me down!

I remember when I first rode a 600 sports I thought it was completely insane, and looked at the 1000's as bikes for ex-racers with death wishes, lol

Now I've only owned the 99 R1 for a few months and am seriously thinking about trading up for a newer one as the pace just doesn't give me that rush anymore?!

Am I the only one??

I'd suggest riding around on a GN250 for a week, and then see if your R1 is lacking. :niceone:

Your obviously not riding it hard enough...Yamaha R1 has more in reserve on the road than alot on near immortal riders will ever use!! Take it to a trackday.

Amen (oooo shit im agreeing with the poos) Take it to the track and ride it like a 600 ..... if you can
if it still feels boring go racing cause you have some serious talent

Yeah, definitely trackday then maybe racing or... As megageoff76 said... Hop on a GN250/RG150 for a while... After that even the 600 will feel quick again

Newer R1's are quicker, feel slower, your model is the one to have if you want that awesome low to midrange rush of power. I never got close to the limits of mine on the road, and I've owned two of them. Still one of the most aggressive feeling bikes I've ridden. I'd like to meet the man (or woman) who could really ride one of these at 100%, because they should (and probably would) be a world class superbike or GP racer. Funny thing, when I worked for a Yamaha shop, we had a guy buy a 2000 model new, he said to me after a couple of months he was bored with it, too slow, yadda yadda, I went out and had a look at his tyres and they still had the whiskers on them! Wonder how hard he actually pushed the thing?

I knew a guy who felt just like you do, he got off to have a look at what was holding him back!

He was a nice fellah too. :shifty: cheers John.

I've done 2 track days since I got it - and loved them. Obviously I'm not riding anywhere near 100% on the track & the midrange power is more than enough.... But on track it's all about the corners :devil2:

What I'm talking about is giving it 100% 80kph to 180kph in a straight line... Just doesn't rip my arms off the way I remember, so I'm just saying you get used to the speed very quickly...

Anyway - please forget this post, it's obviously just going to open a can of worms, lol

I think most people find that riding in a straight line, no matter how fast you can crank the k's, gets boring anyway!

So change outta second gear and hold the throttle to the stop - see if it still feels slow.

Yeah - probably like having a twelve inch cock :niceone:

At first it gets played with a lot, but then you get used to it

I am sure if you give either a good thrashing it will pull pretty hard :devil2:

Lol was wondering if ya was talking straight line running ! Anyone can do 280 k in a straight line ! Get to the track ! And yr right, its all about the corners, how smooth can ya get ! Ya ever read *the pace* (search for the thread about it) there's another challenge for ya, see if you can !

I could have my learner mrs doing top speed on an R1 in a matter of weeks (mmmm maybe) but why ?
Unless yr a drag racer and its yr buzz to do the quater in under 8 but then ya better to look at a ZX kwaka or a Busa and unleash another 10 to 20 grand at it ! Then ya may get tossed off the back !

Find a quiet gravel road, drop down a cog and give it a handful. If that doesn’t get the adrenalin pumping, I don’t know what will!
Oh and look out for sheep!:niceone:

Play with a Hayabusa for a while and you'll never go back... Gives a rush better than a nose packed full of blow!

There might just be a farmer's fence out there that's willing to rip your arms off.
