this will be the most random product review you will ever read......... (maybe)
set out this morning for kayak training for work at 7am this morning in the work van but for some weird reason i put my boots on, not normal considering i was not riding.
did training all was well a little cold so decided to jump in the car with my fellow instructors (instead of the cold slow van) once again had my boots on, still odd!
then about 5mins from our destination for hot showers lunch and a beer we had a car accident, i was behind the driver and the crash sent me into her seat, my legs were smashed into the bar thingies on her seat at a good rate of speed.....
one guy ended up with a broken arm, after the cops showed up and all paper work etc was done the cop said i was very lucky to walk away with out broken legs thanks to the fact i was wearing motorcycle boots!
i love my FORMCA BOOTS goes to show some of your gear all the time is a good thing even when in a car! come tomorrow when the bruising starts to get more colour i will be thankful its only bruising compared to what might have been

Glad your OK.Wearing a helmet in a cage is even safer, but most find it uncomfortable.
A couple of friends of mine once wore helmets while driving a cage. They were stopped by the cops and told to take the helmets off!

Congrats.I prefer to wear boots when driving, given they are normal work boots not riding i prefer to have them. (until i get my feet tangled up under the pedals)

Wonder what rights he has for asking people to remove safety equipment.

My wife only had one bruise after she flew here CBR1000 over a car - started at the ankle and finished half way up the thigh.

Gotta tell the truth here, but I do not feel that an average pair of m/c boots would have more protection than a pair of steelcaps.I work in an industry where steelcaps are mandatory. For me,to step into a pair of SIDI's after years of steelcaps was like wearing socks.

I sort of know what you mean, i am wearing a pair of steel caps a bit (need to on the orchard) so i really like the feel of them. Hell if i have to do any decent running i would damn near chose the steel caps because of the protection they give my ankle if i step in a hole etc. But then again i also like wearing my motorbike boots for the same reason but i would not wear them around much.

The trouble with steel caps is that they cut your toes off if anything heavy enough lands on them. My father worked in a laminated timber factory and they used fibreglass toes caps instead. If a packet of wood fell on them (think approx. 2m by 2m by 4m or more of wood) they would absorb the initial impact and shatter leaving your toes damaged but still attached to your feet. Steel caps would bend at the back and leave you without toes.

Well myth busters could not put enough force onto a steal cap to even come close to bending it. On the other hand if they were to drop a sharpened steel beem at them the cap could guide the beem toward the ankle meaning that you lost a few mill more of toe than you otherwise would have.

Given this dosnt go as far as to say that this si the case with every steel cap ever made, and could will have happened with a steel cap made when the tech was new.

steel caps wouldnt have done shit, where i did the damage to my legs was up my shins and random bruising is just under my knee on my left leg.....

Lol isnt it amazing how an argument can change.
BTW with the wood thing, wouldn't the wood deform? (Given i know jack shit about laminated timber)

They changed when one of their workers lost their toes in exactly this manner. This was a few years ago, the technology's probably marched on a bit by now.

You'd think so but no. Wood is more solid than you'd think over short distances.

I used to work at a Horse riding stable, wore steelcapped boots to work, saved my toes many times when being trod on, but the buggers soon learnt to stand on you just above where the steel cap ended. Still have the marks to prove it... fat bastards!!:(

I remember reading an article a few years back( wish I had a link) from the UK that said that compulsary helmets in cars would quarter the number of fatal and severe injuries during accidents...
