Hey I'm going to get a new rear tyre and I'm after a S12 or maybe the next harder one M12? Or the MC3? Who here supplies them? Rather support one of the guys off here than someone else.

Currently got a s12 130 on my bike and quite like it.

Price check or reality check?
Take a seat Cheese.
The last S12 I got was from Cycletreads and wait for it.......retails for $165.. yep $165 smackers.

They will give you a discount if you cry poor but its still $150 odd including fitting.

This is not a reflection of their pricing, just the cost of S12 tyres. Mind you I have had it on for a couple of months now and will keep it till T100 time. So probably 4-5 months use

Pfft Cycle treads seem to be the most expensive place to get anything from.

It was more a check on what the cost and who sticks them. I've been given lots of great feed back on the MC3, but good luck finding one.

Think I'll go see Scott cause I'd rather support him.

just wanted to asked a bit of a side question to the whole tyre thing.. what tire pressures do you guys run?? ive never really thought about my tyre pressure.. does it make much of a difference? eg like more traction in the wet/ mud?

i normally run 13psi, although michelins are ment ot work better on 15 or 16,

general rule less pressure more traction, but i very rarely run bellow 11 or 12psi, as pinched tubes become more of a problem

i think mine are at 16psi at the moment, would 13psi be all good for really hard surfaces like the clay at kimmys? because thats where i do most of my riding apart from the odd blat around the paddock. I was just wondering because with the wetter trail rides coming up, i need as much grip as i can possibly get.. thats the only thing i dont like about 2 strokes, no engine braking. :baby:

I use 9psi front and rear although you need about 12-13 on the S12's because they are so soft walled and they flex around alot. I use heavy duty tubes and check the pressure and reset to 9 after a run because the temperature increases as the tyres warm up.
If I'm doing a lot of fast stuff where there are rocks protuding from the ground I will either run an extra psi or two or make sure I don't hit the rocks.
In real sloppy stuff I will run down to about 6psi.
Pressures can depend on the tyres used, the terrain, how good your suspension is and your skill at avoiding hitting sharp edged rocks etc.

Ditto.....
Great minds think alike. Saying that though I did Fells MX on Sunday and punctured because dip shit forgot to add a few more psi after running at 9-10 psi for a X country.

Dip shit also forgot to check sons KX. Same scenario, flatty.

I run 8-12psi depending on terrain and I run heavy duty tubes as the only time I have ever had a problem was with the standard tubes. never had any troubles with dents in rims.

Last time i got a pair of s12's they chunked up real bad within only a couple of rides. Found out they were made in Thailand instead of the Spain, and Michelin has been quoted as saying they have quality "issues" in Thailand.

If you pay $165 Cheese, make sure they are made in Spain. Otherwise I would suggest going to a different brand.

See: http://ktmtalk.com/index.php?showtopic=265421&hl=

A Quote from an email from Michelin:
"Thank you for your email. We appreciate the opportunity to serve you.
Concerning your question, we are aware of issues with the Thailand tires. We
are working to correct this and we expect the issues to be resolved by the
end of the first quarter of 2008. We appreciate your interest in our
products and hope to regain your loyalty shortly. We apologize for any
inconvenience this may have caused. "

Haven't ridden with it yet but looks like it will do the job when I fitted it. He only rides a few X country events. But I'm gonna try it at Ardmore or somewhere. Gotta be better than the wornout thing we had on it. Not to much of a risk for $55-00 but!
