Hi guys my sons friend Christian Nisbet aged 11 had a serious crash in the weekend at Taupo mx track. Results are that he may be paralysed from the waist down but we are all hoping for the best. He is currently at Starship in Auckland and they are from Palmy. In conjunction with Motoworld and Ilabb.com and any other shops that would like to show support we are fundraising for the family. Ilabb are currently making replica miniture number boards of Christians race number to put on the front of your bikes. Each one is $10 and all proceeds will go to the family. At the moment you can show support by buying these from Motoworld Powersports. Hopefully a few other shops will come on board to help out which i will list on other posts. You can contact Motoworld on 094425052 talk to me Troy. If we sell 100 of these that $1000 can go along way to Christians rehab. Updates of Christians rehab can be viewed on his fathers website www.dirtstar.co.nz If you dont agree with what we are doing please do not post anything about it on this website. If you call thru with a donation we will mail a replica number to you.

I never like seeing posts of this kind - when someone gets injured through our beloved sport. :( Especially the young 'uns.
I hope and pray that there is some good news soon.
I'll order but I'll wait and see if I can get a few mates to help too....

In Vol. 84 I said: "An early-on nasty crash on the re-built Centre Point by an 85cc rider saw all Juniors and Vets using the straight next to the jump-away after that."
I have been reluctant to say any more but Carmen Davidson of the Manawatu Orion MCC asked me to put together a statement as follows.
The rider was 9 year old Christian Nisbett riding in the practice round of the 8-10yrs 85cc Class. He was on a KX85 small wheel and Christian has been racing motocross for two years but was on a quad at 4. He was 3rd at Woodville on his AFC Motorcycles KTM65 and raced in the North Island's and Junior Nats.
Christian's Dad is Damian (aka Damo) runs Dirtstar, the quarterly Junior and Mini Motocross Magazine and webstite: www.dirtstar.co.nz The Nisbetts live in Colyton, which is about 10klms north east of Feilding.
Christian had no feelings in his legs having fractured 3 vertebrae. On Tuesday. Dr. Hamish Crawford and his team fused the 3 smashed vertebra to the top and bottom vertebra respectively. The medical team did notice that the spinal cord WAS intact and was pulsating which means blood was flowing through it. By no means does this mean Christian is out of the woods or will be fine, but as Damian put it, "he is in the best possible position that he could be in considering his injury".
Christian is in good spirits and would like to thank everyone for the good thoughts and support. If you would like to send anything to Christian, please address them to the following -
Starship Children's Health
Attn: Room 24A - Christian Nisbet
Private Bag 92024

Yesterday Christian sat in a wheelchair for 30 minutes - the first in a series of rehab steps! His Mum L:ynne said it was very painful for him but he had "loads of courage" and got through it like the champion he is! The doctors did a CT scan on his back and are very happy. It looks like everything is in place which is a good sign for Christian - no more surgeries - fingers crossed!
Christian will be at Starship for the next 10 days or so and then be moved to Burwood Spinal Centre in Christchurch.
The family wants to express their whole-hearted thanks to the medical team and everyone that has Christian in their thoughts.
You can follow Christian's progress on: http://www.dirtstar.co.nz/news/index.

Young and still developing bodies have a way of recovering from seemingly unrecoverable conditions. I sincerely hope this proves to be the case. Very happy to support and donate money to this cause. Good luck.

All the best Christian - good luck on your recovery mate.
We all thinking about ya and wishing the best for ya down here in TA.
My son broke his C3 vertebra 2 yrs ago (bottomed out in a river after diving in head first) and had some plates and a bone graft.I can relate to the anguish you are all going through. He has made a full recovery and is now playing rugby and league for the under 15's. And hassling me to get a new cylinder sleeve and piston kit for his KX125! Keep us posted on your developments.
