 You know something is wrong when ... your up at 5am drinking a V for breakfast!!!!!!!!! Iv noticed I have been drinking V's for the past 2 weeks in order to get a quick pick-me-up-and-fast .. I am resigning myself to the fact this is not a healthy start to the day! Any ideas on an energy boost other than normal breakfast stuff????? Cereal tastes like cardboard early in the morning.:dodge:

hehe good to see you doing it hardcore, fire eyes ;)

Have a good sized protein brekky, miss. Couple of eggs, meat, cheese. Good for ya mind and good for ya body! Skip the useless carbs - nothing in them that will help ya.

What I have been having lately - scrambled eggs with a difference ;

Very finely grate a good handful of courgette, and a much smaller amount of carrot into the frying pan with two cloves of crushed garlic. Add salt and white pepper and a big knob of butter. Cook gently for about 5mins until its soft. Beat two eggs in a bowl and then beat in nearly the same amount of milk. Remove the pan from the heat and cool it quickly on a stainless steel benchtop or similar and add half the eggs mixture and stir in with the cooked grated vege mixture. Add the remainder of the egg and heat until the eggs begin to set - moving the lot around scrambled-eggs stylez.

Gotchas for the inexperienced - don't add the egg mix to the really hot pan - it will fry on and wreck itself. Vege mix must be cooked first or it will be crunchy and weird. If the veg browns onto the pan, use a little egg mix to soften it off and then stir it in.

DONT eat it on toast. Give the toast to the ducks and just eat the eggs. Yum. Protein and veges is good for ya.

I tried it, and it tastes like watered down thickened banana flavoured water with half a teaspoon of watered down super-light milk in it. Yark. AND its got like six teaspoons of fucking sugar in it. 95% useless carbs by calorie.

Protein hit ftw !

Blardy awesome girl!!!! Whilst renovating the kitchen recently I managed to consume my body weight in "V". Awesome stuff...
Seriously, cup of coffee and a couple of poached eggs. This girl is not made for the trucker breakfast. If no time for eggs then I will do banana on toast.
As much as I love "V" it really is not very good for ya long term

One vote for a nice hearty left over dinner.

I just cannot stand normal breakfast stuff. I find them plain disgusting and I'm hungry in 30 minutes. I say leave some dinner the night before for breakfast to get you really started for the day. Failing that a nice meat pie or two.

Hey DB,

Is this better than a low GI type high carb breakfast?? I always thought it was better to eat, say, porridge in the morning to get lasting energy. I understood that was the issue with cereals - loaded with sugar so it wears off mid morning.

Cheers,
Mully.

Yea I was doing the same when I was in the spinal unit but using alot more and drinking heaps of coffee. The hangover coming off the stuff sucked and I'm not doing that again, in fact I cannot remember the last time I had a V. I find berrocca gives me a boost when I take them.

We like our Vogels toast in the morning. A decent bread is good for you, not like the finely processed cheap breads that are full of air and refined flour.

Vogels lasts long enough that two slices with Marmalade and Cashew Butter,, last me until lunchtime! We usually have the Sunflower and Sesame...

That is indeed true... Problem with the stuff that has the good carbs, like oatmeals, is that it, generally, is the most fucking boring stuff to chew down as well.

If you're out tramping, very few things beat a serving of oatmeal porridge with raisins.

(cook me own eggs? ummm) I get out of bed at 4.30am as it is! but its all good, Ill work it out .. maybe protein shake???? whatcha think DB .. I have used it for energy to make a big trip in a very tired state :spanking: it works!

ps: I still use it for a pick me up, and am useless around eating low GI food as a better source of energy!

When we used to do a fair bit of hunting/tramping we used to drink shitloads of raro with glucose, probably similar to V for the day(as an 18yr old)25 yr ago or so.Seemed to work with energy levels not waning, mind you would have spaghetti/baked beans eggs, sausages, toast for breaky.

After my surgery my surgeon said I needed to take more salt in my diet, than normal as I lost sodium quicker than before,he also said not to get dehydrated in hot weather,I said drink water,he said yep and sportsdrinks like lucozade, mizone, but not energy drinks with caffiene.

Can understand the problem with giving up the drinks, similar to stop drinking coffee, bloody hard.Funny thing is I never drank coffee till 19 or so,at home we drank tea (not bags),morning and night rarely coffee, even my first job we had a pot of tea for smoko, now I have coffee most times I have hot drinks, still have tea now and then.

[....]I wonder at times if it is almost a placebo effect, think it works so brain says I feel awake lolYep. Try a big drink of water - it will do the same. Most people are dehydrated most of the time, and any drink of any sort results in an instant spark-up.

I notice many young folks will only drink highly-sugared carbonated drinks, and flatly turn their nose up at water, and I watch them barely able to stay away due to their dehydrated state. Oh well.

If it is such an issue now,why wasn't anything done a decade ago, election year?
