View Full Version : Manawatu: Women's info night
oscarnz
28th May 2008, 20:00
I am helping organise a Womens Only night at Phil Turnball Motorcycles in the next month or so.
Would like some feedback of what all you ladies out there would like to learn or get more information on.
It will be a relaxed evening held in store, drinks/nibbles, spot prizes etc.
So far we are looking at Demo's on general maintanance, puncture repair, gear selection, bike selection, licensing etc.
But really need feedback on anything else you would like to see covered on the night.
Any and all suggestions greatly received, because Pauly and the boys at PT's would not even DARE  to think that they knew what us wonderful ladies wanted.
LADIES NIGHT

You need to look at the bigger picture, woman are a growth area in motorcycling, they are stepping off the back seat, and onto the front.
Because woman and motorcycling has not always been a big area until the last few years, we have to remember that the ladies dont always have the depth of knowledge that guys who have been riding for years have built up over that time.
So the chance for them to upskill and understand more clearly some of the finer points of motorcycling is not a bad thing. All we are trying to do is educate.

yes you :Pokey:
regarding punctures when busa pete had one last weekend we luckily were in the only spot that had cell phone coverage however I am now adding a puncture repair kit to a "must carry" the funny thing was we sat on side of road for a few hours while everyone rode/drove past then we had 4 kits within 10 mins but no one had used it before .. now I have seen it once I know how it works so would rather not be sitting on the side of the road for several hours & just get it fixed myself

Those CO2 kits are great, don't forget to have a couple of spare bottles handy and remember they don't work very well with tubed tyres. Also, trim the plug or you end up with a gooey mess sticking out of yr tyre. Don't throw the instructions away either!

just have to make sure you have enough Co2 cans .. a 190 tyre takes about 4 (and one to locate hole since it was not visable)
yup & a knife or wee scissors to tidy the plug is a good thing as well

Should be able to cover most of it on the night, but all depends on how many people we get.

It would be easier to fit an onboard air compressor or simply pack a bike pump . Be sure to include soap an a towel as well - nothing worse than having dirty mits in clean gloves.

I wouldn't dare jump onto someone elses thread:innocent: but anything I know about motorsickles I learnt either back when I was learning to ride on a BSA Bantam or else I have learnt by doing things the wrong way and being told by someone brighter than me " You pillock, what did you do that for". In all honesty I don't think the requisite skills are gender specific but could understand one lot feeling more comfortable not letting the other lot know how little they know ( and besides it stops the students disappearing out the back for a bit of .... - what would I know I went to an all boys school )
