Upgrade, picture albums and the old gallery?

I was just wondering if there was any clever way of cross-referencing between the new picture album function and already existing albums in the 'old' gallery?

And is the new function supposed to replace the old? If not, then I can't help but wonder why I can not upload images to the gallery anymore...

You will have to transfer the pictures from the old gallery to the new albums yourself. The old gallery will eventually be removed, but not anytime soon.
