View Full Version : There are no motorcycles in Auckland

I rode to Auckland from Welly on Tues 27th and didn't see very many bikes on the way (less than 6). But the big surprise was Wednesday when i went from Bucklands Beach to Ramarama and then to Coatesville and back to Bucks and saw 7 ... yes 7 (i counted them) motorcycles. Huh? a city of a million people, traffic nose to tail everywhere ... and no bikes? Is it because there's no cup holders on bikes to carry a Latte?

The trip back on Thu 29th was the same ... no more than a dozen bikes the whole way Auckland to Wellington (with a few detours).

The whole way being Auckland, Kopu, Whangamata, Tauranga, getting lost in a forest on 27km of gravel road for 90 minutes, Pyes Pah Rd, Rotorua, Atiamuri, Whakamaru, Kuratau Junction, Taumaranui, Ohakune, Waiouru, Levin and home. 12hrs on the road, 1496.3km, $189.22 of gas .... what a buzz. I'll craft a ride report over the next couple of days

Mebbe they were all at work, busy earning enough to pay for those lattes.

WTF is it with everybody having a go at Aucklanders about being coffee-drinking snobs? Are Aucklanders really that bad? (Auckland is home to me, but I've been away in the UK a long time)

(1) What is wrong with drinking coffee?
(2) What is wrong with being a snob? I have a very good friend called Snob. He's lovely ... if you like that sorta thing, LOL.

IF I was in Auckland and IF my bike was over here (and not in the UK) I would be riding it.

But then I haven't got a job (yet) so I'd have plenty of time to be buzzing round Auckland and drinking latte. Actually, prolly I would be drinking espresso.

I was born in Napier, moved to Aucks when I was 3, lived in Bucklands beach area for 10 years, then back to napier for two, then moved back to auckland.

Much prefer Auckland to poofy little small towns... it's not busy enough for me! Although, I HATE people(not all) in bucklands beach/howick area..... very strange attitude there.

Grub - Maybe you didn't see very many bikes because you were too busy poofing around day dreaming about getting back to your boyfriend in poofville?
:)

What time were you on the road? Up here we have to work for a living, so on a weekday between 9 and 4 say you will not see many bikes except the odd courier.

Also you may not see so many bikes parked up 'cos many are parked undercover esp in the city. Most places I know provide somewhere to park the bike away from prying eyes. If my main worksite didn't, I would not be there.

I miss Auckland coz I used to be able to put up a post saying "I'm going for a ride out west tomorow - who's acommin'?" and have in excess of 50 bikes turn up at BP Botany for a blat in the sun.

I can't get those kinds of numbers any more.

the chances of finding a decent shorian latte that far south would be enough to put anyone off!

I've just spent a while in Welly - loads and loads of bikes. Really warms your heart.

But, you're all pussies. I didn't see a bike with chicken strips less than an inch wide??? WTF?

hmmm ... you know, on a week day, i'll see at least 15, all heading in the same direction, funny that, we are all going to work .. LOL.

Next time you ride up this way, let us all know, that way you are sure to see more bikes, or you could make a special effort to come to the wespac chopper ride, there will be plenty of rides for you to drool over there :scooter::scooter:

I always see a few other bikes on the way to and from work. There are a fair few of us up here...

And I've never understood why people waste their time on lattes. You can't get anywhere near enough caffeine in the cup if you fill it up with milk

Zackly so. I'll have a latte, only hold the milk.
A latte cup filled with 20 espresso shots, that'll do nicely :niceone:

I used to work with a lady from Bucks Beach. Really great lady. Funny now that I think about it, she had a son, (apparently he would come up to visit a lot and eat everything in the fridge and never offer to pay for it, as I guess he had a hard time keeping a job) that rode a bike and lived in welly... Hmmm.... Probably just a coincidence, as welly's SO big (compared to Gore) and as you said, there are SO many bikers there (seeing as how the population is SO big), seeing how the weather is always SO much better (what's a southwester?) than Auckland... :Pokey: :Pokey:

Carry on....:chase:

Auckland has a secret roster system for unloading the ship that brings the coffee in.
All bikers were on the roster to unload the sacks by forming a human chain.

There was a strong rumour about "some fucker" riding around and not doing his bit by helping out.:shifty:
