As an afterthought on a personal level depends on what you define as classic, take a late 70s bevel drive Ducati which without doubt achieves classic status but then compare it to say Triumphs parallel twin from the same era and its not even in the same stadium.I chuckled when reading a thread on here the other day of the impending release of a reminder of those dark days.:blink:WHY?Next thing we will all be awaiting a new XS650 special.

I'm going to stir it up here.

A PT Cruiser isn't a classic car.

A Ducati Sport Classic 1000 or whatever the f*uck it's called isn't a classic bike.

A DOHC 2006 Triumph twin isn't a classic.

They are all the old look in the new style!

It sort of works, but it doesn't work, it just looks sort of right, but it's all wrong.

Am I making sense?

And yes, I'm a purist cnut, but at least I'm sure of where I stand on this!

I'd be pretty happy to get half rego on a 2006 Triumph if the powers that be went on looks alone.Unfortunatly as Ixion says - 40 years for the cheap rego.

Yes, everything is just a product now, including motorcycles.
Strange times, Neil Young heading the big day out, the Who on tour, Iron Maiden coming next year, Germans making Minis, VW making Beetles,
Tata buying Jaguar...and so on.
Bloody baby boomers...its all their fault.

perfect sense mate, the give away on the list above is fuel injection

very few bikes 25 years old have it

actually i cant think of one, enter the :sherlock::sherlock::sherlock: horde

anyone know of a fuel injected bike?
there were a few mechanical injected cars in the early 70's
and after market systems for cars.

This was a question with a very definite answer - and yet the thread still goes on with everyone's personal interpretation of ''classic''.

This is wearing thin very quickly - can you all get over it please!

I have only ever seen one, a Z1000H up at the Kawasaki dealer near Symonds st in around 1985.
VW had fuel injected air cooled motors in 1968 in the type 3 and a bit later in the 2 litre Kombis.

Just a younster, only bought it in '84.
This pic is a few years old, among other changes the Dunstalls (the real McCoy) rusted out and have been replaced with peashooters and the front guard has been replaced with a stayless (non norton) one.
A bit of a hybrid, 850 Interstate but with 750 sidecovers, and a MkIII (later model) timing cover.
