Right wellington guys, its you big chance to get your name in.... my portfolio.
Some of you may know i am at Natcoll Design Technology and ive been given this assignment to ponder over for the holidays.
Brief: iSociety:
Create a short video in which you tell a story that shows how you feel abou the world and your place in it.
This should relate to something you feel stongly about and which is of importance to you. it might be some aspect of your life, some activity that is important to you, or even be political.
So.. i was going to do snowboarding, but the mountain is closing soon and wont get any decent camera work done BUT i am saved.
My Brief: iSociety- The Motorcycling Community
i was thinking of organising a sunday ride over the rimutakas following you guys with a camera all the way and then finding a place to maybe do some stunts (whitetrash and the rest can show off) and then go to a cafe and pretty much show how great and cool the motorcycling community is.
My main intention is to just get some cool shots that will work with cool music and all of yers can go nuts and ill just be standing there with a camera.
So is anyone in? or have any other ideas to add?

Count me in brother!
When and where??
Anything to help the Motorcycling community!
That is if WT doesnt mind a slow R1 in the picture??(how bout it WT?)
Theres a track day on the 15th of Jan too, that would be a good place for some shots, and see everyone having a good time.

Great idea, but good luck capturing the "sense of community" on video! Interviews with a good cross-section of bikers would be a better way of garnering this, rather than a video about stunting and hooning...
Motorcycling is about the ride, and your mates, and the ride!
The Flying Fish at Martinborough might be interested in sponsorship...

track day would be a good one... and the ride up there with some KBer's picking up a few along the way... say, WMCC, shell Mana, mobil Pram, etc..... on to manfield and then the hard stuff begins....

Hoping for a free feed, aye?
DN - Have you seen Dr Sardonicus' Mountain Rider project (http://www.drsardonicus.com/). Contains some of the most beautifully captured footage I've ever seen. The guy has skill, that's for sure. Might give you some inspiration.
You may want to pick a sub-topic of the "motorcycle community". Trying to cram everything in could either make it look cluttered, or without focus. Where as if you pick something more specific like The Taka's (covering the ride, the random socialising at the top, etc), or following a particular rider/group of riders. This could lead to a more focused story, concise in what it's communicating and therefore more readily understood by someone who up until the time they watch it hasn't really thought much about two wheels.

Didn't your family members help sort your bike? A few frames of spanners being twirled by uncles etc is worth and Oscar... and group bike fixin with a bit of riding, beer drinkin', and stuff...
I support Natcoll with stuff... Lemmee know if i can help!

I often wonder how many of those who gather atop the Takas have ever ridden down the Featherston side?

Thanks for all your feedback guys ive printed it all out and its going into my development plan. So far this is what ive got: The sunday Rider OR the cafe rider.
The general jist(sp?) is that it will show one person waking up, getting ready for the ride the bikie way (lots of coffee) and heading of to a gas station to meet up with everyone else. Get some cheesy shots of all the main players in this 'game' eg whitetrash who i noticed lead the group of us to wanganui would be a main player. then there would be a long segment of the ride where i will use hitcher's quote somewhere
"It's all about the ride...
And your mates...
And the ride..."
(which i think is the best thing since sliced bread, thanks hitcher)
Then after the journey we will end up at the flying fish? or somewhere similar where funky shots of ankle high camera angles running along will be taken and then i will be doing quick interviews of people (i dont know what of) but pretty much just try to convey the normalness, individuality, and smiling faces of all the bikers there.
From then on we could go and do something cool ( i dont knwo what you guys do, find a place to stunt, drag, or just go on an intensive route that pushes your skills and get cool shots of that.
Sparky Bills: Thanks ill try and make it to the track day it might be a good time for me to just get used to filming fast moving objects too.
Hitcher: thanks for putting me pretty much on track to the community idea, and for that awesome, awesome quote.
Ghost Lemur: I had a look at Dr Sardonicus, you are right, that guy does have real talent. unfortunatly theres no way i can strap a camera to a front fork but it has made me think to try and stay out of the ordinary.
Paul In NZ: I'll try and get a few frames of my uncle spinning a rachet or something, thanks for the idea. How do you support natcoll with stuff if you dont mind me asking?
Anyways, everyone thanks for the input again and i hopemany of you can make it to the ride that will be oraganised.. Coming To a sunday near YOU!
