Here's a pic and some speculation regarding the possibility of a Monster S4R based on the current 1098 spec:

Ducati will create a larger capacity sibling for the Monster 696, we just don’t’ know when we’ll get it or which engine it’ll use. Some suggest that, following Ducati tradition, it’ll be powered by the firm’s last generation superbike engine, in this case from the 999. We think it’s more likely that, due to marketing and manufacturing reasons, Ducati will choose to use a detuned 1098 unit. This illustration shows what such a bike could look like and should, with the exception of a few details like the exhausts and brake discs, be exactly what we can expect. Ducati is set to introduce 10 new models by 2010; we’re betting this’ll be one of them.

I personally beleive that they'll make an S2R based on the current 2-valve, air cooled Sport 1000 engines. I think they'll follow the same lines and the "new" Monster 696.
