Adventure ride routes in Northland?

Just been drooling over Marks report and photos of his ride through the top of the South Island - see http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/showthread.php?t=75069

I've been wanting to do a decent loop around Northland including serious offroad wherever possible. Anybody got ideas for a route? I've been thinking coastal up to Russell, cross to Paihia, main road up to Spirits Bay then Cape Reinga, down 90 Mile Beach, then down to the Rawene ferrythrough the forest to Opononi the Dargaville then home.

Anybody done this or know any good trails that go somewhere along this route (and just not run out of gas up end of a dead end trail)? Some of the West Coast area is really seriously remote.

....Rawene-Opononi-Beach Road Waiotemaramara-head south down beach and pop back into the Waipoua Forest and take an adventurous route through the forest and back onto the main drag.
Sorry but that's all I know...lived there for 10 years.

I'm in the process of using GPS data from the North Island 4x4 books (with permission) to put routes on my web site (http://www.advroutes.org.nz). Kinda busy at the moment but I have put the northland tracks up.

If you do go out and you have a GPS I'd really like a track log :D
