Just two days after been stripped of the win in the first Relentless Supersport Junior TT race, Bruce Anstey put the disappointment behind him to roar to victory in Wednesday’s second Junior TT.

The New Zealander enjoyed a nip and tuck battle with AIM Yamaha’s Ian Hutchinson on lap one, but pushed home his advantage over the next three laps to storm to victory by more than 34 seconds over Hutchy.

Anstey was clearly enjoying the Relentless by TAS Suzuki Supersport, taking the lap record on the second circuit with an average speed of 125.359mph.

He had broken the lap record on lap two of Monday’s Supersport race, but lost that along with the win when he was excluded for a technical infringement.

Speaking afterwards, Anstey said claiming his seventh TT win was the best way to deal with the disappointment of Monday.

He said:

‘After Monday I wanted to put all that behind me, put my head down and show people we could do it.’
He added:

‘The whole thing ran perfectly to the end. The bike was faultless.’
'I am just pleased for me, pleased for the whole team.’

A short statement said:

‘The organisers believe that the mistake in engine building was not a deliberate attempt to gain an advantage but simply a human error which under the rules results in the disqualification.’
The Relentless by TAS Suzuki team, which had already won the Dainese Superbike TT and Scottish Life International Superstock TT with Cameron Donald, said the disqualification came when ‘an after-market part, not supplied by Suzuki, was discovered to be outside the tolerance levels set by the TT organisers for the Supersport class’.

Mr Neill said:

‘We are holding our hands up and saying we’ve made a genuine mistake.’
‘It’s a hard way to discover that an after-market part was marked incorrectly, and our engine builder is very disappointed that he didn’t discover the discrepancy. We’re all human and mistakes can happen.’
‘The TT organisers are also stating this was not a deliberate attempt to cheat. I would like to apologise to all the other competitors and congratulate the new winner of the race.’

That's a top effort after the drama of Supersports 1. Hope it all goes well for Mr Anstey (and the rest of the TAS boys) in the last race today.

Obviously a very focused & motivated rider, I notice he has "relentless" and "No half measures" plastered all over his motorcycle.

"Relentless" and "No half measures" relate to a CocaCola energy drink intended to compete with RedBull. In this instance not inappropriate though.

Anstey turns up to race everywhere he goes and I'm a fan. Pity he isn't better known in this country, it isn't as if we have too many sports heroes right now. Problem is, where some other countries have sports journalists we have rugby and/or cricket writers.

The issue with his bike in Monday's race was the exhaust camshaft had 0.75mm greater lift than allowed.

It's both hard to believe that this wouldn't be noticed by a competent engine builder, and equally hard to believe that anyone would be so stupid as to think they'd get away with it, if deliberate. I'm of the opinion that it's probably a genuine mistake.

The absolutely best thing is that his win in the second 600 race included a faster lap than the infringed one, proving that it's the man, not the machine, that gets the results.

Best of luck, Bruce, for Friday's Senior TT.

You're not wrong. I used to write about his success when working on a local paper in Wellington and he was a real gentleman - very quiet but he certainly produced the goods.

I just checked back in my scrapbook and found a story I'd written in January 1999 - in the previous year he'd won four different titles on four different bikes - the Formula Two and 600 Sports Production titles, and I stupidly didn't record the other two, but from memory one was on a Harley and the other possibly on a 250.

And yes, it is a shame most people haven't heard of him in NZ when he is such a talented rider. Of course if he played rugby, he'd be a household name...

...

I could be wrong, but I don't think Bruce won an 883 Twinsports title.

He's sure as hell won just about everything else though.

So true... The first I have heard of him was on the IOM TT site, not that I have followed much racing before, but local coverage should be better considering his achievements thus far in the 2008 TT... Would be nice to see a write up in sports section of the paper, instead of the breaking news about All-Black resting regimes etc...

I stand corrected.

I've just checked with Doug (who spannered for Bruce on his 883) who now works for us, and Bruce won the 883 Twinsport title either 99 or 2000.

What an awesome comeback after being stripped of his earlier title.

I see Bruce led the Senior TT on Friday for a while, before retiring in the pits after his second lap, due to clutch and chain problems. John McGuinness added another win to his impressive tally, now equal with Mike Hailwood.
