For better handling ya get a gixxer k3 front, then find a gixxer k3 middle and slot on a gixxer k3 end. That should sort out the R1's poor handling.

Don't recall saying handling probs?  I wanted suspension set up info to set the sag etc up for my weight and riding style.  Interestly enuf - they say in some mags (eg Two Wheels) - the R1 is a better mid corner bike - go figure.  Each to their own. To Quote

Ya can always find a road test that will suit ya own line of thought ,or what ya want to hear, I Know what I know and I know this from experience.

Ive owned GSXR,s all my life, I also have friends that have owned R1's from the get go so it is fair to say I have spent a&nbsp;enough time in both saddles.

When you get ya R1 flying down some bumpy back rd with a handfull of throtle I will beat my last dollar you wont feel so confident mid corner, I dont give a fuck what some journo wrote, the diff between where he was ridden, what his experience is&nbsp;, where you will be ridden and your experience is, are worlds apart.

The Gixxers front end is rock solid, the motor has gobs more power and its front hasnt done any to give me any doubts, now the R1 is a different story, although the power is down the front end flightiness is plain intimidating. It scares me.

Id trust Charles Manson first.

Exacery..... you proved my point Dan - it is all opinon....no one is right - you just have good experiences on the Gixxer and it suits your riding style.....I am a brand slut and can see the merits of all bikes.&nbsp; Has nothing to do with 'time riding' - but rather personal comfort/confidence/preference.

And gobs more power - come on - read the reviews on true power output at the wheel - it isn't as wide a gap as you think (Suzuki are recognised for being liberal with power figures)

If you read the latest BIKE magazine - they rate the Honda the best bike in the world - undisputedly apparently....everyone of the mags seems to contradict the other - biking is about personal preference - otherwise we would all ride the same bike.

Hence my difficulty in buying a bike - I like them all - it came down to price, looks, availability and a whim and a fancy.

In an ideal world I would like one website where you can go in and choose diff parts from different companies parts bins and make my own bike......

In all honesty, most everyday riders struggle to tell the difference between an R1,Gixxer, ZX9, 954 etc - why - because we ride the bikes at probably only 80% of their limit - the differences in these bike show themselves when you are riding at 99%+ of the limit of the bike.

R1 put down for flightiness, Gixxer radial brakes put down for inconsistency, Honda put down for poor power, ZX9 for bulk....yet I think most of us would be rapt to have any of these in the garage.....KiwiDan aside as the others are 'no comparison'.

LOL - I must confess - I do like the feel of the bike (yes, most from likely coming off the VTR) - scary I know...but have only had it for like 5 days.&nbsp;

I was more interested in just setting the bike up for my weight and riding style, not concerned about the 'inherent problems' - all bikes have them.

My point was that - there is more than one bike in the world.

Steering damper has been ordered from the UK (more for when I race than anything - but will help on the road - thanks Harris) and I have spoken with Suspension Tech in Ellerslie about hooking the front and rear up&nbsp; also.....

When does the 04 arrive? - pictures of it look the bollocks (check latest 2 wheels out)&nbsp; You still got a bike or are you relegated to walking/4 wheels?

As for a fitting GSXR parts - well then it would look like a GSXR - ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww

i wouldn't mind either but i would be fooling myself i could actually do them the slightest justice, unlike your good selves.

that r1 forum that spankme listed is a goody. good luck with the setup, I think performance bike did a setup on the new R1. they sell them(the setup articles). i used their article to set my gsx up & felt it was a good improvement from stock settings. they also explained each change and why they did it. hope you can get that thing just how you like it wkid.

good idea-but Tony's race set up would probably kill you on the road.

Just on the GSXR/R1 thing, At manfield on the weekend Brian bernard was givin a brand new GSXR1000 to try.
they took off the tail lights and stand, fitted slicks and he went out and wasted everybody in every race by a long way.
very impressive. (and this is a road bike?)

Yeah - they were talking about Brian on Sunday&nbsp;- quite a feat to see.&nbsp; Apparently he bought 3 of the ex-journo K3's from Phillip Island......nice for some - bargain at $18500 tho.&nbsp; Somehow I think he may have outridden people on most bikes however.

Hmmmmmmm

I came across the two wheels mag that had the R1 vrs GsxR K3 test in it and had to have a read.

I&nbsp;found a couple of sentances that lined up with what was quoted but that was as far as it went, it stated that the gixxer when at its limit , pushed the front a little.I would think most bikes at their limit would be rather a handful so Im not to disappointed by that statement.

It goes on to state the gixxer doesnt threaten to slap badly when pushed along bumpy rds with the throtle back,.it then states the gixxers brakes are better ,it steers more readily, swaps gears far more smoothly, has a velvet clutch compared to the R1 and the suzuki pushes the boundries past the R1's benchmark. Its better into and out of corners, crucially important facts that on their own give it the win. The result is a shoo in, suzuki have made the gixxer so much better than the rest.

Second Opinion ( as if I need to write this down)

Summary : The gixxer is more of a managable machine in every respect and will do everything the R1 does, though in direct contrast, it demands alot less of the rider to get as much out of it. And that reason alone makes it a lot more of a motorcycle.

Isnt it funny how one artical can be read different ways.:D:eek:

Well - given the pending surgery (less than 5 days to go!!! arghhhhhhhh :beer: ) - some work has been undertaken on the bike....new fork internals and K&amp;N - power commander arrives (fingers crossed) in 4 weeks
