Time for an oil change in the NC30, so I have some nice slippery Elf semi synthetic, but...........I think I have been given the wrong filter, but how do I know?!??!?!?!!??

I bought an oil filter for my 900 Hornet from shop A, and they gave me a filter with Part No 15410-MCJ-003 (Made in Japan) on it.

A while later I bought another filter, also ostensibly for a 900 HOrnet, and it carries part number 15410-MFJ-D01 (Made in USA)

They look identical.

According to David Silver Spares, part number 15410-MFJ-D01 will fit my NC30 AND my 900 Hornet (and apparently 03/04 CBR600RR).

According to J & P cycles part number 15410-MCJ-003 is for 1800CC gold wings, VTX1300/1800 VT1100 and CBR600/1000.

One of the forums I surfed to said they are functionally equivalent.

another says not.

What I think I will do is return the MCJ003 and ask for a MFJD01 (which according to all the sources will fit both my bikes)

But does anyone know, or can point me to a reliable online source whether I need to be worried at all.

I would post a photo, but an oil filter is an oil filter....

And

Do what you feel comfortable with.

Thank you very much, you've set my mind at rest!

I did google on the part numbers but didnt come up with either of those links....

KB is really great for this sort of thing, I've had two questions answered this week, both within 20 minutes.

You all rule!, group hugs etc. (or a manly handshake, whichever you prefer...).

thanks again! :)

There are heaps of interchangeable filters. For instance, the filter for your NC30 will also fit the VTR1000, VFR800, CBR900, earlier CBR600, RC30, and vice versa, among others.

Just for interests sake, the same filter is also used in the Mazda 323, 626, RX7 RX 8.
It will also fit the Mitsi V6 galants.

You just need to choose a brand and a price that suits.
