So after a small chat with Zeocen I decided it might be a good idea to get myself a mentor. I've had my learners for about 4 weeks now, and have been getting out every opportunity I’ve had. So if anyone thinks they have some spare time to teach a learner about motorcycling, please let me know. I'm keen as to learn.

You want a mentor ?
You are your own mentor ! Your own worst enemy !
You will come to realise this, but meanwhile think forward and only forward ! Look straight ahead to where your going, even if your going there sideways, the minute you look in the ditch, thats where you will end up !
If you ever find the back wheel coming around beside you and think AAAAARRRGGGG, be sure its with your wrist twisted full on, with the front pointed to where your eyes are, where you want to be !
You may just find the biker yodel in yr throat AAAAARRRGGGGHAHAHAHAHAHA ! If not, your wearing the gear right ? cause your gone anyway !
If your front slides, pray !
Or lift it ! If you don't know how to steer on the back wheel, learn !
Ya mates trail bike is perfect for practice on the dirt !
Get to know what diesel and oil looks like on the the black matt, this will be what causes the above problems, if it aint your own lose riding in gravel that does it !
Chances are, if you try and lift the front in diesel, You will experience drifting (good luck)

Sheep, dogs, cats, are not your friends (though i'll forever hunt you down if you hit mine) and its easier to wheelstand through them, than it is to avoid them !

Car drivers are yours, mine and every riders nightmare, they will not see you, no matter how many times you see them look at you !
It is a figment of your imagination that they have seen you !
They will pull out, do a u turn, stop dead in front of you !!!!! No matter how long you ride, one will do this to you, if not many !
If you ride by the rule that every other vehical hasn't seen you, you may well just see arthritis out !

Once at a defencive driving course the tutor said to me if you see a head on collision coming up, stand up on your seat and prepare to propell yourself over the car !!
I left !!!
If you have time enough to stand up on your seat, dont waste it by standing on the back brake sliding toward the car either and If the front brake aint gonna stop ya, twist that wrist, drop that knee and get the fuck out of trouble ! All the while preparing to launch yaself off your pegs if it all goes wrong ! Yes we can fly !!!!!
And of course !!! Never look back unless your stationary and then only to opollogise If it was my dog !

Lastly : Ride safe and welcome to the site, may your stay be a long one !

Check out this thread for info on good places to ride around Christchurch:

The advice I can offer is that you should try and be smooth in everything you do, take it easy and relax at all times - mostly in order to enjoy it all as much as possible :D

Very good riding advice for the road: http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/showthread.php?t=60340 - not just group riding. It's mostly about attitude.

HAH! Just saw your profile  I'm at UC electrical engineering as well. Been looking at your bike every now and again! Nice one :niceone:
