I got my first bike 1990 rgv 250 2 months ago, the guy own this bike before told me that it had been put in the garage about 9 years. So I took the carb to the local bike shop to give a good clean n put back on yesterday. The problem is I have no idea how to tune them. They are mikuni vm34ss n I cant find anything about it on internet. So just wondering is there any one familiar with those carbs.

Put a new spark plug in it, and fresh fuel and it should go. You might have to do the traditional push-it-up-and-down-the-road a bit, but if theres nothing majorly wrong it should fire up.

I wouldn't start fiddling with carbs and other adjustments until I had done the obvious (fuel, ignition.)

Be prepared to find out why its been sitting in the shed all this time.

Perhaps someone local can have a listen and a look at it for you and point you in the right direction.

edit: nice bike by the way. much respect! you watch ur ass on it though wont ya.

Thanx mate, I did have a go today and runs ok, except sometimes when i turn
off the throttle, the rpm still keeping high. I gave a little bit gas and then it dropped to normally again. I don't know what cause that for. I might bring the bike to the workshop ask some one to have a look.
PS, the bike got a few bits of pieces need to do as well.

Make sure you pushed the carbs fully home into their inlet rubbers when you refitted them.

Thanx mate, I did have a go today and runs ok, except sometimes when i turn
off the throttle, the rpm still keeping high. I gave a little bit gas and then it dropped to normally again. Your throttle cable is too tight. Follow the cables from the grip and you will see a little shackle adjustment thingy in it. Loosen the locknut and slacken the adjuster just a half-turn and check it again.

Tighten the lock-nut ! Not too tight - its just a tiny wee thing.

You really need to know if the oiling system is working, so I would suggest you get someone to look it over, and check for other common problems as well. You don't want to fuck up your "new" engine.

If it hasn't had a WOF for ages then get it one before you hoon it, because it might have a stuffed wheel bearing or something that could really hurt you.

Now if theres nothing else too glaringly obvious, then just ride it for a week and let it settle in. You won't need to nanna it.. Give it a rev here and there and blow it out a wee bit. If you are a total newbie on bikes then watch your ass you here, coz this thing will bite you. Enjoy !
