Wow, Skyryder, you'll love this link, a guy photographed the shuttle and the space station passing in front of the sun.
Very very cool.

They're launching a mission to the sun in 2010.

But don't worry about them getting to hot they'll be going at night.

I've got the equipment necessary to take close-ups of the sun. (see pic) And have got the software necessary to look up when the ISS or space shuttle will transit the sun (or the moon) as seen from my backyard.

If only I can remember to bother to keep checking for when a transit is going to take place!

Really REALLY cool photo!!!! Hey this might be a really dumb question - but isn't the Sun bigger than that? Was the image constrained by the size of the telescope or something? Apologies in advance if I've got it all completely wrong - I never did get all the physics stuff at school ....... :pinch:

Remember the space shuttle and ISS is only 500km away. The sun is 150 million kilometres away. Basically if you put the earth up next to the sun it would be about the same size as the dot of the space shuttle in that photo.

OMG someone who can explain astronomical phenomena in plain English - thanks heaps :first:

Now I can explain it to my 13 year old - who was the one that raised the question in the first place (hadn't even occurred to me until he did - oh the shame)
