Yeah mate get someone local to have a look at the bike first. Stevo might know some people that can do this. If its a good buy then perhaps buy a $155 ticket (for someone or yourself) from Auckland to Whanganui then ride the bike back another $60 bucks should cover petrol ($30 for food) all the way back to Auckland based on Bomma's 30km per litre (doubt it though)...(perks along the way extra and priceless :blip:)
or you could do a road trip down.....get Frosty's van or anyone's and on the way back stop at Taupo race track to thrash the bike and ride it to its potential (cost of running a van perhaps $250 -300 to and fro plus you might be able to stop at vineyards to buy special wine as a treat)....
Great idea?:wari:

VTR250 FTW! :woohoo: They're absolute cracker bikes - reliable, efficient, stylish, easy to ride with Honda build quality to boot (And none of them are too old, like IL4 250s...:shifty:)
30km/L is optimistic.
Our one has worse economy on the open road due to overcoming wind resistance and running at high revs. But then, I'm well over 90kg, and I ride it pretty hard...
Bank on 21-25km/L depending on who is riding it and how hard they rape it.
Don't fret not having a rev counter - it isn't too much of an issue once you get to know the bike (Besides, what's a rev limiter for anyhoo??)
They both look pretty sweet. I wouldn't panic about tank dents - tidy that sort of thing up BEFORE you sell to move up.

Dent in the tank probably 150 bucks to get it repaired and painted.
bog & repaint whole thing will be closer to $200-$300 range
not that i'd bother... just put some clear on it to stop rust and fix it when you go to sell or once insurance is paying

Yeah bro 200 to 300 will be the whole tank...150 is sort of a patch work. Basically I would not be bothered at all just needs to make sure the rust does not get any larger.
My bike has a very very small dent on the right side of the tank ...can only see it under super bright weather weather... hey Zim like what Andrew and perhaps many people would have said dont worry about the dent as you are still a newbie right?
You gonna reach a point where you will have to repair it cosmetically later on...I think you know what I mean I just dare not say it directly haahaaa

hehe. :blank: i get it. it's like fate for teh bike (i get). hehe. will get it surface painted to prevent further rust tho (if not done already).
apparently the black one down in nelson's been sold. so that leaves teh silver one. haven't managed to get a person to check it up yet, but am gonna send out a few more pm's tonyt.
could always get it sent up. am sure it wouldn't cost more than 250 (if nelson's best price came up as $425 (inclusive of gst). but a road trip would be fun! hehe.

You could go through your entire motorcycling without getting the shiny side down dude. There is a high chance you will stationary drop it but whether you *the word that shall not be said* it is up to you.
Advice..listen well zim...you listening. OI!..good now your listening:
Don't ride outside of your comfort zone before your ready, do not try and keep up to give your ego a boost. As a mentor told me, lock your ego in a box mate when you sit on the saddle. I learnt things the hard way, eide with what speed is comfortable to you, when you want to ride to places you want to ride to.
Riding in group may feel good, and blasting out to woodcocks might seem brilliant after a week of riding but be sensible and you'll live to be a ripe old motorcyclist..as i plan to.

Go 3500 first as you are taking the risk and play the price. Then slowly go up by 100 bucks. If he will not bulge and has set a final price then say you will think about it but call back 20 mins later say I managed to scrap all the extras i have and give him another price that is close to his offer etc etc.... and make sure he has 2 keys and a full tank of gas

awesome. so i've messaged and asked for his honest opinion on the bike's mechanical condition. any things too keep an eye on, any unusual sounds, or jutters that feel wrong. have asked about how the dent got there, if there's rusting and if he's painted over it, (clear - as andrew said), to prevent rusting/stop further rust. waiting on a reply... from there, we bargain! wish me luck! what price should i cut off at? he says "near 4100" offer.. so? 3900 cap?

Don't haggle over pms haggle in person, it's a lot easier and looking someone in the eyes is better, don't worry bout offending people, you have the right to haggle if he doesn't like it he can try haggle you up. Oh and never take a sellers word on bikes..harsh I know as there are nice and genuine sellers people out there but the world will fuck you over many times more than open it's bosom to you haha. * I know from experience*
Get someone experienced to check it out or get a mechanical check.
Worse comes to worse, he sells it to another person before you get there. Never rush, never regret my friend.

It's pretty tough to go all the way down to Wanganui just to haggle eye to eye and not agree on a price then to come back with nothing though
It's a rather new bike with relatively low k's, in the ad he describes the recent servicing and it all sounds pretty clear cut and well done.
Choices are to believe what he says, talk to the mechanic who serviced it, see if anyone on KB will check it out for you, or go all the way to check it out before buying.

now as keen as i am for a roadtrip, i don't bother with vehicles more than 3 hours drive from home
otherwise you end up wasting gas looking at fucked bikes/cars/boats and when you do find a good one it gets sold before you can nab it
there's plenty of good bikes in the auckland region - while they may cost a bit more they aren't a mission to view and you don't have to pay an extra $400 for shipping

Sadly, it's not necessarily soley up to you if you ride many kms in Auckland.
I am testament to this fact. Auckland driving standards are abysmal and muppets in cages can and will take you out when you lest expect it, and in doing so destroy a well-sorted bike that you're very happy with permanantly. Be very, very careful in traffic.

hey all.. been ages. sorry. 201's a mother Parker, but her daddy's 205.. (hehe, i'nt that right kyle).. hectic last few days.
right, so update. talked to owner of silver vtr on wed night. lowest he'd go with me was 3900 (i really need to practice haggling more- ehab was like:spanking: start lower! lower u fool.. not 3900, say 3800! 3800!!! :oi-grr:). hehe. but that too. wasn't too bad (so i thought). so decided to make transfer. (insufficient funds!). so called up the sister to see what she had on hand. she's broke. was a sad moment after the excitement of believing i could scrounge 3900. sux man! so that bike's out the question. i only get a pay coming through next friday, so the bank won't give me overdrafting till then.. stingy buggers!
so, if i can pull up the cash, the guy said he'd sell it to me (obviously, as he is trying to get rid of the bike). but will have to see. am liking andrew's concept of don't bother if it's 3hours out of auck. saw a blue/black zzr down in wellington though. am tempted to get that looked at. will see tomorrow, when i have more time to think about it, and as people down there.

haha, considering the work done on it i think it's safe to assume that bike was seriously rooted when he bought it
after all that work selling seems a bit silly - maybe it's still giving trouble or he's afraid something else is about to go?
with the exception of a motox bike i'd not buy anything that's had shitloads of work on it as it indicates something is/has been wrong. if all that work is a result of the motor seizing the crank may be about to go
(that exception is because motox bikes are meant to have everything replaced at very short intervals - like 3 race meets or 150hours per piston sort of short interval - not that it matters too much if it's a yamaha cause they just keep on going;))

yes i did
i know how to ride a bike, or rather clutch, well enough to outrun an r6 on my vfr, or or you guys on 250s with an fxr:bleh: - learner will have trouble thrashing it that well
i was raping it - if i did that regularly i reckon it would've been fucked within 6 months (new rings, piston etc despite regular oil/filter changes -which it wasn't getting) - note i only thrashed it on 3 rides. all my bikes get a good raping and suffer for it - how do you think i got all my mechanical experience? i mean i sheared the spline off my gsxr250 output shaft ffs!
fxr sucks on the motorway for more than 20min - vibrations make hands go funny and seat is akin to that of a bicycle. it's fine in corners cause you're moving your ass about, but the motorway trips are killers
fxr is perfect as a runabout or commuter
but it's not designed for coro loops. it'll do them, but it'll hurt it. 100kph is very close to redline - do that for 2 hours on the way back and you know it isn't good
i still say buying it to get his restricted then selling is a good idea

Yeah well it's the cheapest CBR on trademe, and minus a few cracks on the fairings and the paint job it is in mint condition. I didn't really know what to expect so I just played along with the market as there's no point in starting low.
Not too sure on the upgrade so far... Having a chat with some people tomorrow and should end up with a pretty good idea of what I'm after.

this thread is rediculus in its longness!! seriously just buy a GN250 and then spend the time on your learners and restricted to decide what bigger bike you wanna get! Seriously at this point in your riding career you won't go any faster on a zxr or a cbr than you will on a GN, infact having ridden Gn's and other more "racier" 250's id say you are definitley guna have more fun on a GN. If you were guna race or were a more experienced rider it would be worth it to put the time into rebuilds etc but I still maintain that the Gn is the perfect learner bike!

now, i know how much this has managed to drag on, but it's almost over!! am viewing 5 bikes on the list so far, and the 2 fxr's are also open to get, but i'm gonna avoid them for now. a gn would be ok, looks cool, and could look even cooler (cafe racer!!:headbang:), but i'm really gonna take andrew's opinion on it and not get one though. i obviously don't know bikes well enough to know the gn's reliability, but am cool spending the little more (plus most gn's are just a little less than the bikes i'm looking at, so may as well spend the little bit extra now, and get the one good bike to last a long time rather than the gn, and have to go through another fit of debates with my dad when i wanna upgrade) - my thoughts anyway.
is the volty a more reliable bike than the gn? or jsut rarer (which would prob make parts a bugger to come across..... hmmm ) so again, i dunno. plus a really wanna just check these ones out too! (they're such cool bikes!!!)

GN is like one of the most reliable, undestractable bike!! I told you about I dropped it 3times and all I had was scratches in levers!!
If you get faird one and drop, you gonna get crack like Ehab's, if you get mullti cylinder it's gonna cost you heaps if anything goes wrong inside. If you get water cooled one, thats gonna be more complicated than air cooled bike too.
Volty is one of the most popular bike in Japan(cheap, reliable, so many parts to cutomise) they call it the 250cc Cub overthere, so why not?

but again, yea... the vtr looks most reliable, so it all comes down to bike's condition, and if the owner accepts my payment scheme... it's not like a hire purchase, where i'm going over a period of years, it's just an extension on buying it by a little bit... plus, i obvously won't have the bike till it's paid off.. so no worry there either

Goodness 12 hour shift is that legal? haha (i do that all the time too). Well your payment scheme is more like laybuy...pay in installment before taking possession of the good.
But in your case if he accepts your terms you can just say I'll pay you a $1000 deposit now and the rest in 3 weeks before taking the bike. Draw up a written contract to cover your arse in the event he sells it to someone else or crashes/damages the bike in that 3 weeks that he will return you your deposit plus a compensation for the time/hassle (usually compensation rate is something silly like 50%). That is how I do it in some of my business contracts...makes them think twice before wanting to renege on any contract.

haha. so very possible. but in terms of progress, it's progress none-the-less. anyway, i've brought it down to these final 3 bikes. say what some of u may about the gpx, it's s sexy candidate in my eyes. then the vtr and the yellow bandit. so ya. andrew. it's down to these 3 bikes. the vtr and the gpx's are open for viewing on friday. will see when i can get the yellow bandit viewed!
na, dushi, i'm no crazed speed hungry buffoon. i liked your advice, and will sure as hell stick to it (as soon as i get my ass off the "armchair" and onto a bike). but hey. without me, u'd not look half as good as you do, now that u got your wheels back and running! haha.

hey all!!!!
so have seen teh gpx. am gonna arrange to view the vtr on tuesay afternoon. mayb about 4-ish? for those of you who saw, share your thoughts.. i liked it!! (lets face it... it's got 2 wheels, an engine that works, and moved!! i'd like anything that does that!!! - eg squig's gn!!!) :D
i'm pretty sure the vtr will be in better nick, as it costs nearly twice as much... but we're lookin for value for money, so keep that in mind. dushi, u reckon u can make the trip on tuesday? hehe, we ended up seeing the gpx at about half 9!!1 hahah, was bloody funny... a good trip, so thanks kyle jaffa andrew and ross for the time and company!! (and the inspection)... it was really impresive. we get there. and u just see 3 people pounce onto the bike and start yanking at bits and literally stripping it down, like you would a pretty young thaing from k' rd!! haha:lol: - isn't that right jaffa :p good time!
PirateJafa
28th June 2008, 13:36
GPX is in pretty good nick - it has been dropped at some point, but not majorly and it has been patched up pretty well. Good condition for it's age ('88) and miles (34k by the odometer). Sounded pretty good, started nicely - although the chap had warmed her up a hour earlier so it was hardly a cold start.
Tyres had plenty of tread (I think? It was the only thing I don't recall looking at too closely), discs and pads okay, chain and sprockets (well, the rear sprocket at least) were rideable, although the rear sprocket was getting a little hooked. Lights and indicators worked, though the forks were a little spongy - but you are not Rossi. No real signs of rust, and the seat release was tidily done.
IMO it's a nice bike, and for 2.5 (might talk him down) it's not bad.
Oh and negative to the K'Rd - I have these awful things called "standards" Zim [insert Honda joke here], and a powerful desire to not see more doctors soon than I have to! ;)

29th June 2008, 18:29
sprockets and fork oil are easy and cheap to fix
it's reasonably straight
what i don't like was how it was already quite warm for a bike that had sat there for two hours - maybe it doesn't cold start well?
from the bottom end, among the "normal" noises from a kawasaki gearbox, it made a ticking noise at idle / a dull clicking noise under load, rate dependant on revs not speed
i want to ride another GPX like rie's to see if it's "normal" or not
personally, i think the VTR is a better bike, a better buy, AND a better investment - but will have to view it first
remember we're looking at what needs to be fixed and whether or not it's worth the money to do so. wheel bearings, chains, sprockets, brakes etc are easily and cheaply fixed - badly bent chassis/forks and mechanical issues can be both time consuming and costly (just ask dushi) - so don't take a seller's word on anything unless they're telling you what's wrong, don't be put off by easily fixed issues as those are what often makes a bike bargain, don't buy a bike that has an unknown fault or bent chassis, and don't get a bike if you don't think it looks cool:msn-wink:

the amount of k's done by the gpx is kinda confused. starts lo, and suddenly shoots up to 250 000 k's, from 15 000. then mileage is reduced by 225 000, (to ~25000). now it sits at 35000. don't know what to make of that. here's the link:

Hey Zim,
Just under 3 years ago I started to ride. Had got my Learners...
I went straight out and bought a GS500 K4, done 2,000 km. By no means a sports bike but had the looks of one. Drove is sensibly up until 4 weeks ago when a guy cut in front of me. (Had not got the full licence by then, and therefore no insurance) I thought it was a good bike for learning considering the communting to and from work 5 days a week.
The only thing I regret around getting a bike you are not licenced to ride is the insurance.
Personally I say the VTR 250, but any bike that you can get insurance on is GREAT bike. (Ya never know when someone might cut you off)
All the best in the hunting,
Swifty

it's not just the biking world, it's the REAL world.
unfortunately, bikes are fairly often stolen, and trademe is a pretty good way for a theif to go bike shopping as many people don't realise you can get the address of a bike for only $2 if you can recall the make, colour and plate number. posting up an address for them makes things even easier.
my mate even had his dirtbike stolen from the back of a van in a hospital carpark. some people have no respect for others whatsoever.

only thing wrong was clutch and throttle cable adjustment - needs new rear tyre too
the bike checked out 100% ok, only a slight mark on the tail and a light dent on the muffler (bugger i forgot to check the steering bearings:doh:)
no rust, flys straight, all suspension/brakes etc works well, engine of course is fine, gearbox is smooth, starts cold no sweat, all lights etc work
could do with a tacho though.... ross may be able to help there as i see he got a digital one rigged up on his.
seller is a car importer who had some spare space in a container - he's got a few bikes including a mint looking VFR800 and TL1000S AND an older model burgman!
deal is for $3,500 fully road legal with plates etc. already has VIN plate.

haha, i'd bling u for that, just becoz it made me laugh (and it's true)... but i don't know how to. i think the amount the govt owes me is the difference i need to be able to afford the bike. between 2 and 2.5 imagine that. can't believe our very own government lets us students suffer like this and have to scrounge around for every penny while waiting for them to cough up some of the tax we pay when we do work! it's pretty lame, me thinks! hey ross, may be askng you for that pdf of the service manual very soon. also, how did u install the digital tacho onto your bike, and what'd it cost you to do it? another thing, some bikes had the gear displayer. i'm guessing that's personal addition, and so, how' that done? how expensive? and yes, though it may no be fully necessary, it's alway good to have in case. as a good way to keep track - ya, i know that u'd prob get use to it without in no time 9looked appealing, in a tiny way)...haha, but all that, for another thread - once i've paid off the bike!!!

i cruise in 5th round town on my vtr, then i drop it down to fourth for any hills i hit. If you cruise in any lower gear you would use more gas for no real reason.
The sweet spot on the vtr's is around 8,000rpm, so if you really want to get moving ring the crap out of it for best results.
Is it red with a black frame like my vtr, or is it red with a silver frame?

the vtr doesn't vibe anywhere near as much as the srv, would happily cruise in 5th at 55kph provide you don't wanna accelerate too hard, and is very "stable" feeling bike. very well planted on the road and doesn't feel like she's gonna slip thanks to good chassis/suspension and decent sized tyres
reliable motor, brakes are great....

man i love this avatar pic i found... aaah, such nostalgia.... great memories of the way my savana bush-based homeland, country-place called zimbabwe, used to be... yes, them zebra's on their sports bikes, that are too small and moving too fast for me to be able to tell which type they really are (not that i'd be able to say it, even if it was stationary, right in front of me:doh:).

hehe, and this time, u'll know where it is, so won't be making illegal u turns or right turns at intersections by any motorway on-ramps:whistle: - my directions were fine...(if u were walking)
luckily i saw the sign before hitting the intersection so made a pre-right turn and munted my way thru sidestreets to find the place
still beat you there too:p

the cheeky sodden bastards! studylink has cut my allowance entitlement. they took 18+ weeks to tell me that. did a lot of running around yesterday, and now that i've finally sorted all teh nonsense out, i've been given a quote f how much they're gonna give me in backdraft. ~1300, which is great, but this whole time i'd had it calculated to be at ~2400. the sods! but hey, that's finally over, so i'm happy :D and i get paid from ticketmaster tomorrow - did a total of 60hr (a whopping 45 last week), so that's one heck of a pay set to come in tonyt! will still only pay for the bike in 1200 installments, in case i need to pay some bill between now and the last deposit. (tuesday).
but it's almost time! it's finally happening! it feels so different, now that i've got the cash with me, nd set to go~!!
i've decided tht to get the bike into the house, i'm gonna keep it at kyle's till the 7th of august. that's my 21st birthday! haha, so will show it to my parents then, and say "look, most parents buy their kid a car for their 21st, i decided to save you the trouble - being the considerate son i am - and buy it for myself, on your behalf! .... surprise! " may not go down too well, but on the other hand, i did work full out to afford it, so they can't argue! (plus i'm now bck to paying the phone and gas bills for the house:p)

hey, can anyone give me a total cost for having a bike. i mean the month cost. here's what i estimated:
insurance + fuel = ~$150/month
wof/6months=$60= ~$ 10/month
rego/6months=80= ~$ 12/month
maintenance/2 months~$250 = ~125/month (this is a random guess, that may be way too little.. just bear with me, am trying to make do = filters and oil change, etc, etc...) - but correct these figures where u can!
tyres, ~ever year = $350 (front and back) = ~$30/month
total cost/month = ~$275
how's that for my guess anyway? i'm hoping it'll be a lot less

Maintenance - oil and filter 65 bucks do it yourself twice a year. Coolant cheap DIY. Just budget some spare cash if you need to replace the battery or spark plugs..
most of the stuff can be done on your own. Tyres I think it will last you for a while more like a full set may last you 2 to 3 years.

insurance $10~/month
I think it's good to use STATE. Insure your bike "slightly" higher just in case.
Thier excess is $700 for learner+under 25 yrs old, but I only pay $10 a month.
People do have other preference of insurance company, so call all of them up and get Quote.
Your thread never gonna end!!!! Make sure when you get your bike, start another thread "My to-do list for VTR250!!!" :p

Yeah, it always pays to insure the bike for a bit more than it is worth - it means that if you do do any modifications to it in the next year or so which will increase the value of the bike, you will not be out of pocket!

tyres, ~ever year = $350 (front and back) = ~$30/month
total cost/month = ~$275
how's that for my guess anyway? i'm hoping it'll be a lot less
reg cost more due to acc levy, wof cost less due to being a 5 minute check without any tools
insurance = ~$42/month (total guess, so set $500 premium)
fuel, excluding big rides = ~$90/month (you'll get atleast 20km to the litre)
wof/6months=$25= ~$ 6/month
rego/6months=$130(?)= ~$ 22/month (it just went up, and i pay for 12 months)
maintenance, commute only= ~60/month (provided you do it yourself, that is still a high estimate. most newbies spend zero on maintenance for 6-12 months. big difference between what you *should* do in theory and what you actually do in practice, and what you can realistically get away with)
tyres, biannual, commute only = $350 (front and back) = ~$15/month
all maths done in head without care for accuracy
total cost/month = ~$235 PLUS costs incurred while doing coro loops, but they technically shouldn't count when we compare to a car
so compare that to a car, with $100 or more a week on gas and whatever the hideous rate on parking is where you work, repairs required for a $3500 car, billion bucks per tyre, and some stupidly high insurance premium bacause car drivers have a knack for bumping things with bumpers, and then mum insists you have the slight paint scuff on the plastic bumper touched up "before it rusts", and the assessor quotes $360 for a job the panelbeater told you would cost $60
start getting quotes for insurance, full comprehensive cover too! check it's agreed value etc etc, and what their policy is on others riding your bike etc etc
some good ways to keep costs down are to insure it with the same ppl who do youre house etc etc, and/or my trick of insuring under my dad's name with me as a named rider. (he's got his full licence, is over 25, and no bike claims for atleast 20 years - i'm the same, but under 25 and had to be insured for my restricted etc)
can't wait for my 25th birthday when the insurance companies send me a box of driving/riding skill. all of a sudden i'll be much less likely to crash:laugh:

plus, dad doesn't have a licence on bike, and sister's crashed the ca enough times for his premiums to have sky-rocketed through the roof... something tells me, insurance under my own name would be smarter (plus, i can tell my dad that it's my own responsibility, and i'm giving him less things to worry about and less words to look at when he gets statements and the such.... Heh, u know what is worse. Kind of :Offtopic: but last week i borrowed my mum's car (i decided to give my car little body work). I went around the corner to see one of my mates, couple of hours later fireserivce arrives. We are both like ugh yeah something exciting to look at, but wait why are they by my mum's car. As it turns up there must have been some electrical issue and the electrical system (battery etc) lighted up and one of the neighbours saw the smoke so she call fireservice.
All plastics etc under the bonnet melted lol. Hopefully insurance will cover it, otherwise bye bye zeal. :bye:
Moral of the story, if you are old enough get ur bike on ur name, with ur insurance so when something happens u know it is not causing other ppls headache. Thats what i do anyway
ps. is anyone ever looking at those tags down the bottom... wtf lol "he's gonna bin it!", "just do it"

that's the ducati link.
(bit pricey, so not an immediate buy)
also, andrew, am moving teh pickup date of bike to the friday after this. 2 reasons, still have a monthly pass on bus (and so being a student, i wanna get what i can for it), and secondly, i'm gonna slow down teh last payment by a week, so that i'm sure to have enough for the bills this month. am a bit worried that i won't afford it.. so wanted to take the cautious route, and hang back a bit (in case). - plus it saves me forcing kyle to hide it for a week.... haha.

so far:
hondasure = $332/year (incl HRC membership), and insurance up to $5000 coverage. (that's apparently a rough estimate, and am contacting a person called robyn to confirm it)
protega = $550/yr (up to $4000 coverage)
kiwibike = $580/yr (covers $5000) <--- obviously i'd opt for this of teh 2 options.

......
you've got insurance and licence sorted? what time are you picking her up? how much riding have you actually done?
just thinking auckland rush hour traffic on a friday arvo isn't the best place for a learner's first ride.....

got honda-sure lined up. rego and licence will be done on the friday itself. just broke the results to dad. not looking great. looks like teh bike'll be very far away from home, for a very long time! :( sux! stupidly, the more i try and the more work i put into a paper, the worse my results tend to get. it's ridiculous. obviously, dad thinks i did absolutely no work for the papers, so he's even more pissed off at me. don't know what life's gonn throw my way next!
as for riding time... umm, i could prob say, collectively, my total riding time clears about 2 hours (tops). never done town (not including the lesson and th bhs test either). but i really doubt i'd be that hard presed getting about, or at least up to the uni. (not with a mob of bikes around me!) won't stall. managed to get over that part of riding. perhaps a side-road route would be best? gotta make sure the gear's all there first. how do we go about getting a locker set up? one that can fit a helmet. who do i get in touch with?
let's see.. so rego is done, (or wil be), wof done, insurance wil be covered, wil put about 10 buck fuel into it, gear's done, need a locker. need an escort, and will let u all know time. i'll walk to the place, do rego with him, then pick up bike later on in the day, so i think, after 5 -going a bit into chiller time.

can't do it on saturday?
do the scratchy test now, before the day you pick up the bike, it's not hard and it may hold you up with the queue and whatnot. 2 hrs is not very much experience, but you've already got a car licence so atleast you're used to traffic in auckland. what did you learn on?
and actually have insurance sorted! after all this effort i am not going to see you have this written off on the way home without any cover

ummm just my 2c, when i got my first bike i was all keen to ride it home as well, untill one of my friends told me he did just that and ended up crashing it. So, i instead arranged a van from my work so i can use it for couple of hours and i just took it home. Later on i was very happy i did just that.

i've got my scratchy! did it a while back now. so am fully licensed up. should have insurance sorted by friday, but the only thing i'm worried about it the fact that the bike only gets registered on friday.. so how will that work? do i call up the insurance company and give my rego details to them to process the final stages after i get it done?

learnt on a crf i think it was called. (and in india, a splendor plus - don't know what it is otherwise, sorry - over there, they have a lot of diff bike makes and the such, it's madness).
saturday... probably not. i'll talk to the guy, and see what he says. maybe monday?
also, how do i get a locker that'll fit my helmet in it?

Well what I did with all my bikes was call up the insurance company letting them know that I will be getting a new bike say a day in advance from pickup and give as much details as possible. Then on day of pickup before money has changed hands give the insurance company a ring with the plate number. Pay the cash making sure all is good and ride home.
My new fireblade purchase Dave from Kiwibike was good enough to sort all the stuff out for me at 6pm just before he left and I was off my way stress free. +1 Kiwibike

ask kindly at the ausa desk thing, or just do what many of us do and put your locker padlock through the D buckle on your helmet. pays to use the helmet bag it came with to stop it getting scratched - i see the ausa lockers are pretty cramped....

locker's been given! easy as _______ (use your imagination). also, final confirmation... bike pick-up, tomorrow about 3:25 (roughly... haha, taking into account traffic, and distance from uni). am pillion on jaffa's bike, kyles pillion for ehab. we leave uni at about 3:10. need to be back by 4:00, (got another lect). kyle will be taking bike home there-after! (lucky bugger, gets to ride my baby before me.. thats now 2 ppl. andrew and kyle. who else will she have ride her before me! haha. somehow it sounds like my bike's a prostitute!):devil2:
will be submitting the insurance form tomorrow. so should be covered. waiting to see what they say about kyle as a temp transporter, and maybe if he'll at least get 3rd party insurance. by the looks of it, tho, should be good. 280/ yr for comprehensive coverage, with lots and LOTS of extra bonuses! so that's another thing out the way!

usually by just calling them and giving details you're covered for 7 days
i know a few people who've done that just to borrow a bike for the weekend (think of it as temporary insurance where you only pay if you need it;))

sweet! (though she said i'm insured the moment i make a direct debit), so i think she covered herself there, plus, she sent me the forms to fill out myself.. cheeky buggers, but for 280/yr, i'm not complaining!!!
